"The job was completed on schedule, with some long nights put in. My wife has hardly left the porch since they screened it in. Customer service was without compare. A more energetic team would be hard to come by."

"We replaced the old vinyl siding with Hardie Board siding, installed new roofs over porches, and replaced one porch completely. Tim is a pleasure to work with and his work is top-notch! He is honest, fair, and kept us advised all the way through our project. When he found our back porch could not be repaired, he was straight up and gave honest cost to replace it. Our house looks great! I will definitely look to Tim again for future projects."

"15 yrs ago , i left my full time job to pursue my dream of being a self-employed Contractor and was welcomed with open arms by my community and fellow contractors which led to my success as a contractor. Recently my wife and I wanted to remodel our master bathroom , and we decided to look for a start-up company and return the same chance we were given when I took the leap myself. Upon searching we met Jacob and Eric with GMI in Colp , Illinois. From the first meeting with these guys , I knew they were the right choice for us. We met and discussed what we were thinking for our project , we agreed on everything and gave them the greenlight to get started. From start to finish , we were beyond impressed with the level of respect and professionalism that they not only showed to our home , but our family as well , including our 2 children that asked a million questions a day !! We look forward to working with these guys again in the near future , my wife and I both Highly Recommend GMI for any of your Home Improvement needs , and I personally look forward to following the future of their business and watching what they accomplish. Top Notch Guys , Top Notch Work !!!"

Closets questions, answered by experts

Since they are so fragile, it is not usually recommended to stack anything on top of your packed lamps. If you have sturdy boxes, and what you plan to put on top of them is of a similar weight, it’s okay to stack.

You can modernize an old-looking closet by just painting it, but beyond that, consider electric elements like recessed or accent lighting. If this is a large and deep closet, you can consider adding an island to the middle or a nice ottoman on a rug. Luxury closets will have even more items, like felt-lined drawers for watches and jewelry, in-wall safes, electronic shoe storage, or a tablet catalog of their items.

The time it takes to build a closet varies widely depending on the project's size, complexity, and level of customization. On average, construction can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks.

A simple reach-in closet might be completed in less than a day, while a more complex walk-in closet could take one to two days or more. A typical project often falls in the 2-to-5-day range. However, a large, highly customized walk-in closet that requires structural changes, like moving a load-bearing wall, will take significantly longer.

A professional contractor can provide the most accurate time estimate for your specific project. If you are planning a DIY build, it is best to budget additional time.

Yes, 12-inch shelves are often considered the standard closet shelf depth for storing folded clothing, shoes, and small containers. However, if you plan to store bulky items such as blankets, baskets, or cleaning supplies, you may want to go deeper. For specialized layouts, an adjustable system can give you more flexibility.

A standard walk-in closet has dimensions of 7 feet by 10 feet at a minimum and an average of 100 square feet. Remember that the dimensions of the closet aren’t necessarily the usable space. This means that a 100-square-foot walk-in closet with shelves on each wall and an island may only have a walkable area of 50 square feet or less. Make sure you consider the effect of additions when you plan the room—mockups are a great idea.
