"I wish I had seen these other reviews before hiring these scam artists. Got scammed by the rude owner/operator, Paul. His crew damaged my home and the item they tried to move, Paul has failed to provide proof of license or insurance, and now Paul has ghosted me. I arranged to have a large fridge relocated within my home. Paul gladly took the job and expressed no concerns about the project. The quote was high but seemed reasonable for a skilled, careful crew. The three guys that showed up were amateurs and stank of weed. I should have canceled right there. These clowns struggled with the move and ended up damaging the fridge in multiple places and left deep scrapes in my wood floors. The cherry on top is that Paul has the gall to tell me the damage was already there, that it was an impossible job (but he gladly took it anyway), and that his crew took pictures to document it beforehand. I'm still waiting on seeing these mythical pictures or any offer of compensation."

There are many maintenance and repair issues that lead to a malfunctioning garbage disposal. Regular clogs place wear and tear on the motors, leading to an eventual shutdown. The most common garbage disposal size in the U.S. is 1/2 horsepower. This size is ideal for households with three or fewer people or those that don't produce much food waste. Although 1/2 horsepower can't handle the typical food waste load for a household of four (which is about 250 pounds of food waste annually) as effectively as 3/4 horsepower, it remains the most common size of garbage disposal on the market.

Most garbage disposals have a reset button that can be triggered with a tool as simple and accessible as your index finger. That said, if you need to perform a more in-depth troubleshooting step, like manually moving the arms inside the unit or rotating the impeller plate, a hex wrench is the most common tool you’ll need. Most garbage disposals come with a hex wrench.

While unplugging your garbage disposal and plugging it back in may help, most units have an actual reset button, a bright red switch found on the underside of your unit. If your garbage disposal needs resetting, you may notice this button sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the surface of the unit, with which it’s usually flush. Simply depress this reset button to reset the unit, and then test to ensure it’s working about 10 minutes later.

Generally speaking, it’s absolutely worth it to repair a garbage disposal, so long as it’s eight years old or younger. Once you pass that eight-year threshold, it depends on the issue. If it’s a simple jam and the core components remain unaffected, call a local plumber for a quick repair. If it seems like the motor is wearing down, spring for a replacement unit.
