While a custom shower costs more and is trickier to install than a prefabricated type, tailoring the layout is particularly useful in small bathrooms with limited space and offers complete design freedom. You can build a shower bench for a family member with limited mobility or a shower niche (built-in, ingressed shelves) to hold clutter and act as a focal point.

There are a few qualifying questions you should ask your bathroom remodeler before hiring them:

It’s possible to convert a bathroom into a wet room, but it often requires extensive renovations. You’d likely need to remove the floors to install drainage and a new floor over that, remove drywall outside the shower area, and replace it with cement backer board covered in a waterproofing material. You’d also need to remove the existing shower, waterproof the walls, and install fixtures to create a more open, curbless shower space.

Just like the rest of your roof, a dormer will last as long as the life span of the materials used in construction. Slate, clay, and concrete roofing can last for over a century, whereas more standard roofing materials, such as asphalt shingles, last closer to 30 years. The structure of the dormer itself, however, should last the roof's lifetime when properly maintained. Only the window, insulation, and eaves may require repairs over time.

Home office renovations are tax deductible in certain circumstances. First, you must be eligible to take a deduction for your home office.
