"Our house had a water damage that ruined much of the drywall and floor on the first floor and the basement. For such a big repair job, I carefully looked up the reviews and recommendations from Angie's list and talked to 3 contractors that have the highest ratings. AOM was one of the three. David, the owner of AOM, quickly came to our house, assessed the damage, explained to me what need to be done, showed great empathy to our loss and current situation (having to stay in hotel waiting to go back to our house), and put a very competitive bid (about 2/3 the bid of another contractor). We picked them and signed the contract. AOM uses Trello, a cloud-based project tracking system that software companies often use, to effectively and promptly communicate task description and updates to all workers and house owners. AOM workers are professional, hard working, and friendly. For such a big project, expectedly there were some hiccups and AOM had to juggle ours with their other on-going projects. David kindly explained to me various aspects of the repair work and promptly fixed any faults that we identified. I became to completely trust David's professional skill and that he would treat our house like his. Several nights and weekends David came to work late so that we could move back to normal life as soon as possible. In the end, we are very happy with our remodeled house. I sincerely recommend David and AOM for any house remodeling and restoration job."

"I know of no other contractor who has total customer satisfaction as his top priority like Mr. Flanagan does. He is absolutely the best. My basement sustained ankle-deep water as the result of an outdoor basement stairwell drain that violently backed up because its circa-1951 drain line led to the street storm sewer (by design). That sewer was overcome with water during a storm in the summer of 2010 that featured a tornado in my western-suburbs area. Soon after pumping the water out of my basement with a mobile pump, the mess prompted me to (once again*) call Mr. Flanagan (*His crawlspace crew had done a beautiful job finishing my dirt-floor crawlspace with a concrete floor and wall insulation a couple of years earlier). After the basement waterproofing project described in this review was complete, however, I was disappointed with the workmanship: The concrete work looked less-than-professional (out-of-flush with sump flange and the stairwell drain, plus way too many swirl marks and splattering) in the stairwell and basement's appearance areas. In short, it just didn't look like his business's flawless concrete job that was done in my crawlspace just years earlier. Mr. Flanagan agreed. With no questions asked, he immediately had a different crew come to my home, tear out all of the previously laid concrete and drain lines and replace it with the workmanship that he would expect his crews to use in their own homes. The re-do of the project at least had met my high expectations for its cosmetics. And, of course, I hoped it was a sufficient waterproofing solution for my basement. Fast forward just a few short years. Affter having perhaps sustaining that 100-year event with the Chicago-area rain storm of April 17-18, 2012, while my neighbors are pumping water out of their basements, mine remains bone dry. Thank you Mr. Flanagan and Crawlspace / Basement Waterproofing Solutions for a job (design and installation) well done. Your basement waterproofing solution indeed deserves an A+.
"Hector , Jose and Martha are extremely nice and they do a wonderful job. I had them paint my entire house, remove and install new flooring throughout the home, insulate my attic and install an attic ladder. Drywall my garage ceiling, clean out my crawlspace, install a ceramic tile shower, build a front deck and power wash my entire home. They also cleaned and revarnish my cabinets and all the woodwork in the home, including a beautiful front door that needed to be sanded and varnished. They can basically do everything. Everything came out very nice and if you had anything that you wanted changed or corrected, they took care of it right away. I am thankful that we have them as our home contractor. Would recommend them to everyone. No job too big or too small for them. It has been a pleasure working with them."
"We got SAL?s name from friends of friends at church that they had built a new house for. After a tour of their house we were set on SAL as our contractor. We had them remodel our master bathroom. This was a big project as everything was removed down to bare bones. They guys showed up on-time every day and always cleaned up the mess at quitting time. Scott & his crew are wonderful pleasant people that truly care about what they do. Our bathroom turned out perfect. We get so many compliments on the custom shower they built. Amazing!!! I would recommend them to anyone. They aren't the cheapest contractor in town, but you get what you pay for. We plan on having them back to replace our windows too! "
"I was impressed with Abatement Material’s Inc. attention to detail throughout my entire home project. The contractor came out to my home to review the project, and discussed what needed to be done, why and the cost. I was told that a review of our conversation would be provided with details of the scale of work, time needed and cost within the week. To my delight, I received the project review within the period he stated along with a way to contact him if I had any questions. I accepted the proposal, and each step of the project was conveyed to be personally, along with addressing my concerns. The workmanship was above board, and the clean-up was also. It was completed timely as stated and within the budget given to me in said proposal. I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking a contractor and crew who will go beyond the norm to make a satisfied customer."

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.
Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.
Framing a basement takes three to five days, on average, when completed by a professional, though it may take longer for a larger space. Keep in mind this doesn’t include the time to complete the design, obtain permits, and install the drywall on the framing. On average, fully finishing a basement takes an average of 45 days.
There are a variety of second-story deck privacy ideas depending on your budget and aesthetic. For starters, you might consider fencing or tall privacy railing that masks a good portion of the open deck. A pergola or an awning can provide additional cover and shade. Outdoor curtains are an easy way to add or remove privacy at your convenience, plus they’re a wallet-friendly way to decorate your deck.
When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.
