"He told me what time he was coming and came right on the dot.  He knew exactly what kind of tree I have and was very knowledgeable about when to cut it and what can happen if I cut it too early.  I had had a power outage in my garage and I inquired whether the tree roots could be causing some electrical issues.  He told me he didn't know, but the best part was that he spent 45 extra minutes investigating the garage and told me EXACTLY what to tell the electrician when I have them come out.  When the electrician came, I told him what Steve Briggs told me and he went to the exact spot and we discovered that Steve was exactly right!  Before Steve left, he asked if there was anything else that he could do to help me.  I had another tree service provider come out to give me an estimate and it was $150 more expensive than Briggs Tree Service.  When I asked him about what Steve told me about the timing of the tree cutting and what can befall the tree, he told me that now was as good a time as ever to cut the tree down and he didn't go into any detail.  After he left, I did some more investigation about what Steve told me about the ash and the virus that can kill my tree if I cut it right now and found out that Steve was EXACTLY right!  He is truly an expert arborist and can be trusted!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Some trees, such as silver maples, birches, sycamores, and scotch pines, shed their bark naturally. If your tree is not one that does this, it might have fallen prey to pests, fungi, or diseases. It could also simply be suffering from an extreme weather change, such as a snowstorm or heat wave. If you’re still stumped, consulting with a pro can help you diagnose your tree’s specific problem.

Whether you grind or dig up and remove your tree stump depends on your landscaping goals. Using a stump grinder leaves the root system in place for it to decompose over time, whereas digging up the tree stump removes the roots and the stump. Overall, stump grinding is a far simpler process since you won’t need to deal with the roots. Stump removal will make your yard look like a demolition site, but you’ll have an easier time replanting in the same place as your former tree.

The average tree pruning should take one hour with the right equipment. Light pruning of a small tree may only take around 15 to 20 minutes. Pruning multiple large trees in your yard will probably take several hours, including cleanup. However, tree pruning pros can do this job much faster, so you can rely on pros if you’re short on time.

There are a few general rules to follow that will help you prune your trees correctly. One of the most important rules is to prune during the correct season for the type of tree you have. Typically, pruning should be during late winter. For younger trees, you should not remove more than a ⅓ of the tree's crown when pruning. Also, remember to remove dead and diseased branches first, then proceed with pruning the rest of the tree.

Generally, you do not have the right to take fruit from a neighbor's tree, even if the branches overhang your property. The fruit is considered the property of the tree's owner. While you may have the right to trim branches that cross into your yard, the fruit on them typically still belongs to your neighbor. However, laws can vary by state and municipality. In some areas, branches that extend into your yard or trees that straddle a property line may entitle you to some of the fruit. The best course of action is to speak with your neighbor, as they may be happy to share. If a conversation is not possible, check your local regulations before picking any fruit.
