"We recently hired Ramirez Builders to replace door frames and exterior doors, and we couldn't be happier with the results. I have to say it's so refreshing to find someone who still cares about doing quality work. Nick and his team, George and Owen kept us updated throughout the process, stayed on budget, and left things spotless. We highly recommend them for your next home project!"

"Please send workers to customers who speak English!! How can I communicate with the foreman if he doesn't speak english. This team did not clean up after themselves leaving debris in our yard. They did a poor job at the corners of the fence and had to call them back to address the issues, they are returning to fix the errors....but I would not to business with them again."

Deck Cleaning FAQs, answered by experts

Staining and sealing the underside of a deck creates a moisture barrier but traps water in the boards, quickly leading to rot. No matter how well you seal the above deck, water still gets through via nails and screw heads on the surface. Allow this water to flow naturally under the deck, where it is routed through the drainage system.

Generally, a patio is more accessible than a standard deck because patios are constructed at ground level. However, decks can be made accessible by adding a wheelchair-accessible ramp, a vertical lift, or a stair lift along the entry. An ADA-compliant deck ramp costs about $3,000 on average. The additional investment will provide a much friendlier experience for your guests with movement impairments.

Most building codes list a minimum width of 36 inches and a maximum height of 7¾ inches. However, for the most comfort and spaciousness, you’ll want to aim for a width of at least 48 inches and a height of 7 inches. Again, it’s always a good idea to base your numbers off steps that you already use comfortably.

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.

Finding a reputable deck builder should start with speaking with a local company and asking for samples of past work and references. You can review the company’s workmanship and speak with past customers to learn what the customer service was like throughout the process. It’s also a good idea to read online reviews and check the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website to see if the company has a history of customer complaints. If you can get a referral from a family member or friend, that’s another great option.
