He also repaired an outdoor stairway deck for me and did an excellent job. His on-the-spot quote for the extra work was fair and reasonable, especially for the labor involved. The material costs are what they are these days, but Josh kept everything transparent and did high-quality work from start to finish. I would absolutely hire him again."

"We dealt with Jim in April 2020 to have gutters installed on our pole barn. He was initially quick to respond and easy to deal with, but has failed to finish the job that we paid him for. His team installed the gutters, but didn't have the correct brackets on hand to make the gutter profile level (our 2x6 fascia is mounted at an angle). He assured us that he would come back soon to install the proper brackets and finish the job. After several weeks of not hearing from him, we called to follow up. He told us he'd get right on it. Well, it's been 5-6 calls later and nearly two years and he still hasn't made good on it. I guess it was a mistake for us to pay him and trust what he told us. I'm certainly looking elsewhere next time."

When choosing a siding color to complement your home’s red brick exterior, start by examining the shade and undertone of the brick. How long siding takes to install depends on various factors, but averages seven to 14 days for a 1500 to 2000 square foot home. You may have a longer installation timeline if your house is large or architecturally complex, if you have underlying damage beneath the existing siding, or if the weather delays the installation process.

Insulated vinyl siding is very durable and can last for 20 to 40 years. The extra support that the insulation provides helps to make the vinyl siding less susceptible to damages from weather and other minor wear and tear. Vinyl siding on its own may  be less durable than other types of siding like fiber cement, but when coupled with insulation it is stronger than usual.

You cannot install clapboard siding on a bare, unprepared surface. Clapboard siding requires a clean, sturdy base made from plywood or similar materials, sometimes called backerboard. Then, it needs an underlayment or sheathing, a moisture membrane to help protect the exterior wall.

Note that sometimes clapboard siding is caulked as it’s installed for additional protection. We don’t suggest this: Caulking the siding can trap moisture inside the clapboards and lead to moisture damage over time. The siding needs some space to “breathe,” especially in rainy weather.
