"I had good vibes about Josh from the first time I met him, when he came out to give an estimate on removing all of the old vinyl siding on our house and installing new board and batten vinyl siding. As time progressed through the project those vibes proved to be correct. Josh is an extremely hard worker who will pay very close attention to detail throughout your project. He takes great pride in the quality of his work. If you have any concerns or issues, Josh will tackle them head on and resolve them to your satisfaction. He is a top-notch contractor without a doubt. "Roofing was repaired nicely. It blends in with the original materials. Siding was done separately a few weeks later. It looks nice and clean. He even hung a new light for me. Both gentlemen did a great job and kept the area neat."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Many modern homes have soffits, but older ones don’t, and you may be wondering why. Older homes have eaves that extend further beyond the home and help to circulate air, negating the need for a soffit. This style of building has faded away, therefore, modern homes need separate soffit installation. Modern soffits are more efficient than this older style and require less material to construct, saving homeowners money.

The average cost to replace siding is $10,500, but you should expect to pay an average of $12,000 to install new siding over stucco. The additional cost goes toward assessing the old stucco for damage, any necessary repairs before the new siding goes up, and the materials and labor required to install furring strips over the stucco to attach the new material. Even with this additional cost, installing siding over stucco is often more affordable than removing the stucco and starting over.

To clean painted aluminum siding, use a mixture of mild detergent and water applied with a soft brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose to remove soap residue. For stubborn stains, cleaning aluminum siding with a power washer on a low-pressure setting can be effective. But avoid using high pressure, which could damage the paint.

There are several highly durable types of siding that you can build right on top of without removing it, with wood being one of them, provided it's in excellent condition. However, a common reason for siding replacement is to eliminate materials that are in poor condition, making installing new wood siding over old not recommended. Additionally, the cost of adding siding over existing siding can increase costs to between $7 and $13 per square foot.

Vines can cause severe damage to your siding. They can grow underneath and all around siding, which can cause it to pop off or split. Vines also trap moisture, which can damage siding by causing rot. The cost to replace siding may make you consider getting rid of the ivy or adding a trellis or lattice support for it to grow on instead.
