"They werenâ t able to install lighting in my brick pillars after I purchased new lights per their request. They said the pillars would probably need to be taken apart to find the problem. They did some rewriting work and it was ok."

"I could not be happier with the final product! The first pic is the old bathroom from the 60s when the house was built. The rest are the final rebuild and it looks great. I would highly recommend VMK Remodeling for any project that you might have. I am also going to get a bid on redoing the deck on the back of the house as Vince's company does decks as well! Thanks to his great crew as well, great people to work with."

"This company is a little pricey. It cost me $170.00 plus the $39.00 that HomeAdvisor charges the company to remove and install 6 smoke detectors. A total bill of $209.00 for 6 detectors, or $34.83 per detector. It took all of about 1 hour to complete the removal of the old and installation of the new for all 6 detectors, including testing of the new detectors. The new smoke detectors were the identical brand and model of the existing. Installation amounted to twisting the detector to release it from the mounting bracket and unplugging it from the electrical pigtail connection. To install the new detector involved the reverse procedure. Since the new detectors were identical to the existing, there was no need for any electrical wiring connection (except for the unplugging and replugging of the pigtail), nor was there a need for any bracket to be removed or installed to the ceiling. The existing brackets remained in placed and accepted the new detectors. While the work was performed favorably, I'll look elsewhere for my next electrician."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

There are many types of ceiling fans, from self-automated smart ceiling fans to outdoor ceiling fans that provide additional comfort to your patio. What you choose all comes down to function and personal taste.

Consider your ceiling height when selecting a ceiling fan. Rooms with ceilings under eight feet high will do well with low-profile ceiling fans, also known as flush-mount or hugger ceiling fans. If your home has cathedral ceilings or ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, you’ll need a large ceiling fan with a heavy-duty motor to get adequate air circulation.

Stainless steel or aluminum fans are long-lasting and have less air resistance. They are best for outdoor use as their durability helps them withstand unpleasant weather conditions. Their heavy weight requires a stronger motor, which leads to more noise than other blade materials.

Wooden fan blades are a classic, durable option. They are much quieter than metal fans and feature a wide range of styles and finishes to choose from. However, they can be damaged by moisture if not covered with plastic.

Plastic fan blades are lightweight, easy to clean, and versatile. There are various shapes and styles to choose from as plastic is easily molded and dyed. They will also deteriorate slower than other materials as they aren’t as susceptible to humidity and moisture.

The most efficient ceiling fan height is 8 to 9 feet from the floor to the fan blades. For ceilings higher than 9 feet, a downrod can be used to lower the fan to the optimal height. This positioning ensures adequate air circulation and maximizes the cooling effect. Remember, fans should be installed at least 7 feet above the floor for safety.

Many ceiling fan mounts feature a design that can accommodate slight slopes by using a ball joint mechanism at the end of the downrod. If your ceiling has a steeper slope than your fan allows for, you can install a downrod that will allow your fan to safely hang below the slope.

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.
