Bigwood Construction is a family owned small business owned by Jake and Jene' Bussard. Jake is the general contractor with seven+ years of experience mostly in the kitchen and bath remodel area. Also Jake is an excellent trim carpenter, as well an overall carpenter. We are licensed, bonded, and insured as a general contractor (lic#CC BIGWOC*899QA). Our company currently has no employees, so Jake is on-site everyday, and if help is ever needed he has multiple other contracters that he uses as needed. All quotes are free of charge and billing is generally 60% downpayment and the other 40% upon completion and cutomer walk-through. We are a fun, honest, and trustworthy company, with the motto" There's not a problem that can't be fixed!".

Hardwood Flooring questions, answered by experts

You can get away with stretching the carpet with some remaining items of furniture, so long as you have ready access to the parts of the carpet that require maintenance and you are not stretching through the furniture, as this leads to tears and fraying. Try to remove at least 50% of the furniture if you can’t remove it all.

Yes, installing underlayment underneath the laminate flooring is necessary. The underlayment has many benefits like preventing water damage to your subfloors, insulating the floor for sound, and providing an even surface for the planks to sit on.

When you skip the underlayment, you can end up with serious issues, including water damage to your subfloors, noisy planks, and an uneven floor.

No, replacing flooring is considered a renovation. You're updating an existing feature without changing the layout or structure of the space. However, it can be a remodel if extensive work is needed to update the subflooring.

Avoid plush, high-pile, or thick carpets on your stairs because they can increase the risk of slipping and wear down quickly in busy homes. Also, ensure the carpet you install is stain-resistant, particularly if you select a light color.

Yes, you can negotiate the purchase price of new carpet. You may also be able to negotiate installation costs or other fees in addition to the per-foot pricing of the carpet itself. You may have better luck negotiating with an independent retailer (as opposed to a big-box store), as they may have more discretion in pricing, but it’s always worth asking.
