"Doug Harper was most reliable and his crew were exceptional in handling the many obstacles that arise when working where water meets the land. Having owned lakeside properties for over 50 years, creating shorelines and establishing new docks and water recreation sites is a hazardous task that requires great foresight. There are steep hills, mud, and the risk of large machinery and people getting submerged. Not a job for the faint of heart. Superior Seawalls performed beyond measure, what I could not find anyone else to do, at any cost."

Dock Building and Repair questions, answered by experts

To maintain a dock, perform regular inspections for structural issues, clean away debris, and apply a sealant to wood components. This protects the dock from water damage and prevents premature wear and structural damage.

The cost to build a new dock can range widely, typically from $5,000 to $65,000, with an average cost around $15,500. The final price depends on several key factors, including the dock's size, the materials used, the complexity of the installation, the depth of the water, the type of dock being built, and whether it is in fresh or salt water.

The most significant factor in knowing whether to repair or replace your dock is the extent of the damage and its age. If you have minor cracks on a few boards and the dock is less than 15 years old, it'll likely be worth repairing the damaged part. However, it's time to replace this essential water feature if you have significant damage, such as rotting wood in multiple areas, warps or cracks in the dock supports, or a damaged foundation.

In most areas, dock builders need some type of license. In some states, only a general construction license might be necessary, while a marine construction license is required in others. You can check online to see which is mandatory in your area, and then you can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to make sure the company holds the proper license. Since dock construction is inherently dangerous, confirm with your builder that they are fully insured for everyone’s protection.

Common features in lakefront landscaping projects include native and water-tolerant plants, stone paths, docks or piers, seating areas, and erosion control solutions to create a harmonious integration with the waterfront setting.
