"Van Dyke was the first company to respond and within 12hrs,and after talking with them, I hired them on the spot. They came the next day and had our clogged dryer vents completely cleaned in about on hour. My wife wanted to buy a new dryer, but Van Dyke saved us hundreds of dollars. Great Job, guys!!"

My name is Chase and after getting out of the military last year I decided to start my own duct cleaning company after seeing the growing need here in central Iowa. I offer reasonable pricing for air duct cleanings and dryer vent cleanings as well. If you have any inquiries about pricing or jobs feel free to call or text at anytime. Thank you!

"Arrived spot on time. Discovered my dryer had become partially loose from the vent system and repaired that connection. He then went outside and cleaned the vent line clear back into the house. I was embarrassed by the amount of crud that had accumulated. The tech was covered in gray lint. Everything was included in the prearranged deal and it took less than an hour to do all the work. Very happy with A Plus and I won't wait so long to call them again."

Dryer Vent Cleaning FAQs, answered by experts

Exhaust systems should be inspected annually to prevent efficiency loss and address any arising mechanical issues.

A burnt rubber smell coming from your clothes after they’ve been in the dryer can be the result of too much lint in the lint trap. This prevents air from circulating properly, and the lint may even come into contact with the heating element. It could also be the result of bigger issues like a faulty thermostat or worn-out dryer belt. A burnt rubber smell can even come from elastic waistbands or rubber decals in your clothes. To remedy this, dry clothes on a lower heat setting or allow them to air dry instead.

You have two different types of air vents in your home: supply and return air vents. Your supply air vents are responsible for pushing air into your home. Meanwhile, return air vents draw warmer air back into the ductwork to condition it by removing the warm molecules from it. Both types of vents are necessary to a working HVAC system and a comfortable home.

Using a leaf blower to clean your dryer vent is not recommended. While it might seem like a quick solution, it can push lint and debris further into the vent, creating a blockage, making the problem worse, and posing a fire hazard. The force from the blower could also damage the vent itself. For a safe and effective cleaning, it is better to use specialized tools, such as a dryer vent cleaning kit with a rotating brush head that scrubs the lint from the ductwork. Alternatively, hiring a professional will ensure the vent is cleaned thoroughly and safely.

The ideal time for dryer vent cleaning is typically during the spring or fall. These seasons offer moderate weather conditions, making it easier to access the exterior vent and work on the dryer without the extreme heat of summer or cold of winter. However, the timing can also depend on your usage patterns. If you use your dryer heavily year-round, consider scheduling cleanings more frequently, perhaps every six months, to prevent lint buildup and reduce fire risks. Ultimately, there is no wrong time of year to prioritize safety.
