"I used Scott's Home Renewal for a first floor renovation about three years ago, was pleased and hired them again for this. Not the cheapest contractor, but definitely the best I have used here. First class professionals; first rate subs, especially the tile and glass people The custom glass door arrived with the wrong specs, and the glass contractor got the factory to make a new one with only one day of waiting.. If you want it done right, contact Scott's."

Customers say: Quality work

"HUGE thank you to F&F Construction and Remodeling for an awesome basement complete finish. We had multiple bids prior to going with Matt Fowles and Brent, but we could not have been happier with our decision to move forward with F&F. They were great to work with, easy to communicate with and they even put up with possibly the hardest person on earth to do work for (me)... sorry guys! If youâ re looking for any home remodeling, outdoor work, decks etc. Iâ d highly recommend connecting with them for a bid before you get started with anyone else."

"Adam was amazing! From the first meeting he was able to understand what I looking to accomplish and was very knowledgeable. He also explained that he works with the same crew (i.e. plumber, paint, drywall, electrical) to maintain a high quality of work. His budget was very acceptable for the work performed. Even though his time to finish my basement was a couple weeks longer than other bids from local contractors, he did complete my basement on time with no major delays or issues. He kept me in the loop about the schedule and gave me a week to week timeline of the upcoming events and what work would be completed and who would be coming to my house. I really appreciated that. Any time I had questions or concerns Adam would take the time to answer them or reassure me of the progress. I am so happy I used Adam and now my 3 little children have a finished basement to play in!"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.

Basements are commonly converted into game rooms. The potential challenges you may run into include controlling moisture, working with low ceilings, limited natural light, and the need for additional electrical or HVAC work. Addressing these issues can add to the total cost, but it ensures a comfortable and functional space.

Permits may be required for major repairs, structural work, or electrical and plumbing restoration after a flood. Check with your local building department to determine permit requirements and associated fees for your flooded basement cleanup project. Obtaining the correct permits helps ensure work is done safely and up to code.

You should always use high-quality lumber for your framing in order to ensure it will last the test of time and resist moisture. Use 2-foot by 4-foot lumber that is pressure-treated for your framing.

Create a checklist, reimagine the space use, set a realistic budget, choose materials and aesthetic details, and get professional support for guidelines and troubleshooting.
