Home heroes is a company I’ve started to not only create and repair the dream homes here on Kauai but to allow people to afford it. I'm a General Contractor, you can see my selective catergories.I use my services all over Oahu.I have my own subs Drarftsman, plumber, electrian painter, mason tilesetter and block setters. We also build and design.I have 4 employees right now use to have eight but it was too much over head like keeping it small.I'm always on the jobsite. My billing procedures are simple we ask for 50 % down and and 20% when we get so far and so forth, you hold the last percentage until final walk thru and sign-off.Their is 1 walk thru to make a punchlist of what needs to be corrected,we go in and finalize it.If theres a problem we sit down and get to the root of the problem, I'm straight forward easy to talk to.

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Joists and beams are both part of the flooring system above your basement, with the beams spanning the length of your home and getting support from vertical posts underneath, and joists usually spanning half the width of your home with no support posts underneath. The floor joists provide even support to the subflooring and flooring above, and they distribute that load to the beams. The beams then distribute that load down through the support posts to the foundation.

Walkout basements are not generally included in a home’s square footage, although they may be if they meet certain conditions that depend on local regulations. A finished walkout basement used as a living space may be counted toward square footage in some locations as long as all codes for livable space are met.

It is common for a contractor to ask for a down payment before starting a project, especially for jobs that require purchasing materials and equipment or hiring a crew. The deposit amount can range from 10% to 50% of the total job cost. While a request for up to 50% is not unusual, a contractor should not ask for more than that, and you should never pay for a project in full before the work has begun. To protect yourself, always discuss payment terms before starting and have a written contract that outlines the project timeline and expectations. Additionally, be sure to hire reputable contractors and check their licensing and insurance before the project begins.

Professional remodelers streamline the process, manage permits, and handle renovations efficiently—significantly mitigating risk while maintaining standards.

Although it’s not required, air ventilation in a finished basement can help improve the air quality, prevent moisture and mold issues, keep musty odors away, and also maintain the air quality throughout the rest of your home. Proper ventilation will help maintain the value of your investment in finishing your basement. Try basement ventilation methods like installing vents or a dehumidifier for best results.
