"Our bathroom remodel was the second project that Dave Toland and his sons have created for us. The first project was a few years ago when we moved into our home. It was carpeted everywhere. In Kona Hawaii, who needs carpeting throughout? Especially, if pets are in the home. The second project finished today, January 14,2021. All we can say is WOW! It is beautiful, it is creative and absolutely lovely. His son, Seth is so smart. He instinctively, knew what we wanted. He created, our Dream Spa like bathroom. He has a great eye for design. If you are thinking of tile, wood, or any floor or wall updates. Dave Toland Flooring is the way to go. Linda A."

"BJ is an honest contractor, something that is rare these day's. He and his crew are on time and they do what they say they are going to do. BJ goes above and beyond what is stated in the contract to come back and finish little details that aren't even required of him. He simply does the right thing for whatever the situation is. I am wishing now that I had taken before and after pictures but I simply did not. I highly recommend him for any job."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.

Yes, it’s possible to cut tile without a wet saw; instead, you can use an angle grinder, a glass cutter, a snap cutter, tile nippers, or a rotary tool with a tile-cutting blade. A manual tile cutter or snap cutter works well for the larger tiles that wet saws are typically used for, while smaller projects might just require nippers or a glass cutting wheel. If you’re working with large quantities of tile, however, power tools are best.

When cleaning porcelain tiles, avoid products that contain ammonia, bleach, and other harsh chemicals. Acid-based cleansers can damage the tile, though you can clean them with a diluted mixture of one-quarter cup white vinegar mixed with one gallon of hot water. It is important always to use a soft-bristled brush or sponge, since hard bristles and steel wool can scratch the tile.

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

Popular options include ceramic, porcelain, stone, and glass tiles, chosen based on the area (bathroom, kitchen) and desired aesthetic.
