"Atlantic HVAC was able to come give me a quote and complete the installation of my HVAC within just over one week. Some of the other companies weren't able to even give me a quote in that amount of time. In addition, they gave me a fair price. A couple of the companies that I spoke with wanted to charge $1-2K more!!!! So, if nothing else, it's worth at least getting a quote from Atlantic HVAC before hiring another company."

"When our smaller AC unit failed, we hired Galbreath and Sons to repair it. Because the repair would have been costly, Steven offered us several options so we could make an informed decision about whether to repair or replace. He spent three hours inspecting our system and explaining our options, thoroughly answering all of our questions. He never rushed us to make a decision. We decided to replace our two inadequate systems with a zoned system, a two-day job that required extensive duct work. Richard and his crew were prompt and efficient; they worked hard in miserable heat and cleaned up after themselves. We are extremely satisfied with the new system. Galbreath and Sons did great work, and we would not hesitate to recommend them or to use them again."

"This was one of the most efficient and successful AC jobs I’ve ever seen done! Before I knew it, they were done and used their own discretion in making decisions that worked out very well for me."

"Craig responded immediately to my request for A/C problem. The A/C would not turn on. It was Friday night and A/C was not working properly for a few days. It was really hot in my house. Craig sent Michael out for Saturday morning appointment. Michael was great! Got problem fixed in no time. Many thanks to One Hour."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The average life span of an HVAC system is 15 to 20 years. Even if your old air conditioner is still functional, it isn't as energy-efficient as a newer system (especially one with an Energy Star designation). Older HVAC systems aren't as efficient, and the 10-year mark is when you should start making full system replacement plans. Twenty years in, that plan should be well underway rather than waiting for the unit to die.

No, you should not attempt to replace an AC evaporator coil yourself. This is a complex task that must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician. The process involves handling hazardous and flammable refrigerants, which poses significant safety risks. Attempting a DIY replacement can also cause further damage to your HVAC system and will likely void its warranty. It is necessary to hire a local AC repair professional for this job.

You need to know the square footage of your home first. Multiply that number by 20, which will get you the BTUs (British Thermal Units) needed to cool your home efficiently. Homes up to 1,000 square feet usually need a 1.5-ton unit; homes 1,000 to 1,200 square feet usually need a 1.75-ton unit, and homes 1,200 to 1,400 square feet usually need a 1.9-ton unit. Talk to a local pro for more specific advice on your home.

Signs that your A/C system needs professional service include increased energy bills, uneven or poor cooling, loud or unusual noises, and frequent cycling.

Yes, a mini split AC system can replace central air—and quite easily, too. Since mini splits don’t require ductwork, homeowners can convert their central air system to a mini split to save money and energy. Consult with an HVAC professional to learn more about the process of replacing your central air with a mini split.
