"Dalton and his crew did an amazing job! From when he showed up on time initially to give myself and my neighbor free written quotes to when he and his crew completed their huge tasks yesterday, they were amazing! Respectful and professional in everything they did. They removed huge pine trees in difficult locations by using an 80 ton crane to lift them over our houses. Nothing was dropped in our yards and when the crew left you could not believe that anyone or any equipment had been there. Spotless! A hardworking company whose quotes were very reasonable. I have absolute no hesitation in recommending Action for any tree work. Thank you Dalton."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

Hiring an arborist costs around $900 on average, with prices ranging from $250 to $2,500 or more. Some arborists charge an hourly rate, typically between $100 and $350 per hour. The final cost depends on several factors, including the type of work, the number of trees, accessibility, and whether you hire an independent arborist or a larger tree service company. When hiring, you should also consider their experience and insurance coverage.

Below are some estimated costs for common arborist jobs:

  • Small tree removal: $300 to $500

  • Large tree removal: $500 to $2,000 or more

  • Tree health assessment: $150

  • Trimming a small tree: $75 to $200

  • Trimming a large tree: $150 to $400

  • Dealing with invasive species: $150 to $1,000 or more

The Christmas tree type that smells the best to you will ultimately depend on personal preference. But if that classic Christmas tree smell is important to you, choosing a type of tree known for its scent is a safe bet. Try a balsam fir for a spicy, comforting scent or a Douglas fir for a sweeter smell. You may also like Fraser firs, Scotch pines, and blue spruces.

Bleach can potentially kill some types of delicate ornamental trees, but for the most part, it will only kill the foliage it comes in contact with. Applying bleach is not an effective method of killing a tree. A better option is to use an herbicide, which is a chemical compound designed to effectively kill a tree.

Palm tree removal can cost anywhere between $100 and $1,800 depending on palm size, tree condition, labor, location, and the amount of prep work involved. With the necessary skills, a DIY palm tree removal for trees shorter than 15 feet can lower costs. However, it’s generally recommended that you hire a palm tree expert for tree removal.
