"Brandon repaired a leak we had around a vent pipe from the bathroom. He replaced the defective boot with one the was a lot better quality than the one the roofers used when the new roof was placed a few years ago. He was very friendly and explained the problem and what he was doing. I will definitely call on him again with any roof problems I might have."

"If you’re looking for someone who truly stands behind their work, I highly recommend B&B Roofing. Brandon did an outstanding job rebuilding my deck, and the transformation speaks for itself. What used to be worn out and weathered now looks absolutely beautiful and solid. From the very beginning, Brandon was courteous, professional, and honest. He communicated clearly, showed up when he said he would, and most importantly—he kept his word. That kind of reliability is rare these days, and it meant a lot to me as a homeowner. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were top-notch. You can tell Brandon takes pride in his work and genuinely cares about doing the job right, not just getting it done. If you want quality work from someone you can trust, B&B Roofing is the company to call. Brandon exceeded my expectations, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone who needs roofing or deck work done. Absolutely fantastic job."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Roof windows and skylights can be installed on various roof materials, but skylights are usually the only option that you have if you have a flat roof or a roof with a slope under 15 degrees. In these cases, roof windows have too high of a risk of leaking to be suitable options. The specific installation requirements may vary, so it's important to hire a window replacement contractor. Certain types of roofs may not be ideal if they limit the size of the window or if they pose an issue with rainwater collecting around the area.

Yes, skylights can affect a home’s energy efficiency, either positively or negatively. Properly installed, energy-efficient skylights with Low-E coatings, double glazing, and UV-blocking glass can help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce heating and cooling costs. However, poorly insulated or older skylights can contribute to heat loss in winter and excess heat gain in summer, lowering overall energy efficiency.

While it is possible to install a skylight as a DIY project, it is not recommended. Skylights are the most likely type of window to leak due to their position on the roof. Even minor mistakes during installation can lead to significant water damage and high repair costs. Additionally, working on a roof is dangerous, especially when maneuvering heavy, bulky windows. Due to the required roof modifications and the need for proper sealing and structural safety, hiring a professional skylight installer is strongly advised to avoid costly long-term issues.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.

The decision to remove a skylight depends on your specific circumstances and preferences. There are several reasons why you might consider removing a skylight, such as extensive damage, a desire for better insulation, or the need to change the room's layout. Additionally, if the skylight is causing leaks or other issues, it may be necessary to remove and replace it (which can incur additional skylight installation costs). It's important to assess your specific situation and consult with professionals if needed to make an informed decision.
