"It went very well. James was very professional and did everything that we asked and came when he said he was coming. One of the trees he had recommended cutting down was a big one and it was rotting inside. It was a good thing we had him take it because it was hollow inside. I watched the climber take down the big tree and he knew exactly what to do as not to have any damage to the house. I would definitely use James again. We plan to have come early Spring and clean our driveway and parts of our house."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Footings for ground-level decks need to be at least 12 inches deep, and some areas require them to be even deeper. A standard range for deck footings is anywhere from 12 to 48 inches. The minimum footing depth is determined by an area’s frost line and soil conditions. If you’re unsure how deep to install deck footings, check local building codes to find the minimum footing depth in your area.

To prepare a deck for a hot tub, start by thinking about safe and easy access in and out of the tub. Homeowners should plan for steps or consider built-in seating, a level surface around the perimeter, and a clear, slip-resistant path from the house. A hot tub requires sufficient space around it for comfortable entry and exit, ensuring no awkward squeezing or stepping over high edges. Good lighting and handrails can also make a big difference, especially for nighttime use.

The least expensive way to build a pool deck is with concrete deck blocks, pressure-treated lumber, and the appropriate hardware for hanging joists and securing deck boards. With these basic yet durable deck materials, you'll have a pool deck that's built to last without the high price tag. You should also stain or seal the deck to protect it against the elements.

Choices include wood, composite, and hardwoods, each with unique benefits.

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.
