"Jesse gave us two estimates and had to return once after we changed the scope of the job. Knowledgeable, nice and personable guy. Helped us choose to paint brand and color scheme. Workers were very friendly and courteous, too. The job included painting walls, stained trim, fieldstone fireplace, and popcorn ceiling. Moved all furniture to the center of a great room and back again after painting. I've painted a lot of rooms myself and never got such sharp clean lines at molding and trim. Impressive work. Also cleaned up afterward but were very neat in doing their job. Covered everything with plastic or drop cloth. Job completed in two days. Also had a follow-up inspection by Mr. Sykes a day or so later. He found a few spots needing a touch up which he took care of. The cost was expense (but half of another estimate). But I could never have taken care of the ceiling and high walls. Too old to be on a high ladder. Would recommend them to anyone."

"I had an old wooden attic ladder that got broken from a water heater being carried down it. The door wouldn't close all the way. I purchased a replacement and realized it was too heavy for me to deal with. Chris contacted me and gave me a great price. He and his son Caleb came and installed (including cutting the ladder down to fit and also some additional adjustments for the hole so it fit accurately). They cleaned up the area and even got rid of the box that the new attic ladder came in. I was so happy with the work, I asked him to give me a price on another project."

"Steve is a good natured and reliable guy who has great enthusiasm for his work. He installed Pergo laminate in my dining room and kitchen doing a very tricky transition of the same flooring from the living room that was previously installed. It came out beautifully and I highly recommend Steve."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Unless you’re using a 2-in-1 formula or painting over an existing coat of paint, it pays to apply a coat of primer ahead of your new paint. Decks see a lot of footfall and exposure to extreme and sudden temperature changes and moisture levels. The primer promotes better paint adhesion, moisture repellency, and a smoother finish, which means you’ll often need fewer coats of paint.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

Deciding whether to stain or paint a pool deck depends on your budget, desired look, and the deck's material. Both options can work. Paint offers a wider variety of color options, provides excellent water resistance, and can last longer. However, it requires a primer and can eventually fade or peel. Stain is often cheaper, easier to apply, and penetrates the wood for a more natural look and longer-lasting finish. It also has great water resistance. The downsides are fewer color options and the need for a sealant. The choice can also depend on the deck material; for example, staining may be a better option for concrete as it bonds well and lasts longer than paint.

If you don’t treat a cedar fence, it will turn from reddish brown to gray over time. You can keep the cedar from graying and retain its attractive, deep red color by sealing your cedar fence with a stain that keeps the wood’s oils in and serves as a barrier against the sun’s UV rays.

Staining pressure-treated wood is a recommended practice. While inherently resilient, it's not impervious to moisture and UV exposure. Staining treated wood is feasible and recommended for enhanced protection and longevity. Applying stain and sealant safeguards against degradation, prolonging its life span. These measures shield the wood from environmental threats while augmenting its aesthetic appeal, ensuring your investment endures the test of time.
