"I contacted Affordable Roofing because rain water was leaking into my house through my dryer vent. I also needed someone to replace a set of second floor window shutters. The roofer was knowledgeable, pleasant and patient. He identified the issue and explained the procedures for resolving it. The job was completed in a timely manner and the price quoted prior to performing the task was the price I paid. I will recommend Affordable Roofing and Angie’s list to my family and friends. M. "The process is simple, a local sales rep comes out to your house and gives you a sales pitch and shows a demo.  The product is good enough, but be aware of a standard sales pitch (ie used car salesman).  This didn't bother me too much, especially if you are used to negotiation or "haggling," however, I could see where this style of sales pitch could turn some people off... if you want a straight-up estimate (I did see this is several reviews about the sales tactics, so I expected this).  After negotiating a bit, we arrived at a price, and based on my research the installed product is about 2-3 times more expensive as a professional standard screen gutter guard installation (ie from your local home center), however you must consider the product that is being installed, which in my opinion is superior.
When we moved into our home in 2011, the house had NO gutter guards, and I immediately installed a DIY from the local home store (Leaf Defier XL) which is a porous gutter insert.  The Leaf Defier product was terrible and completely clogged in large sections after only 2 years of use!  The problem was, once the pores become clogged, the product is useless!  There is no way to clean this debris out!  And, this is especially true if you have pine trees near your house.  The DIY install for this only cost me about $500, but if you imagine replacing large clogged sections every two years, this becomes expensive and labor intensive.
Therefore, I wanted a low maintenance / high quality solution, and after an extensive search I came across gutter dome.  We have already had a really hard steady rain since install, and the gutter guards function very well. The product is made in the USA, which is important to me too!
The install took place soon after the price quote, and the crew showed up on time.  They did a good job with the install, however, I had only a few small gripes about some other issues.  The crew did leave some trash in the yard of the old gutter insert remnants and some metal scrap in the driveway, that I had to walk around and pick up.  They also removed a splash guard on the front of the house, and did not replace it. This is the only reason the job was given a B.  The gutter product however is working well. Time will tell (as with all gutter products) how well this product will stand the test of time.  Maybe I'll review them again in a few years to update how well they function over time.
Only other issue is price.  This is one of the more expensive options for gutter guards, which is why I graded a C for cost, but I was willing to take the quality over cost, especially after my experience with the cheap alternative!

Gutter Repair and Replacement questions, answered by experts

If your gutters get overwhelmed every time it rains, adding an extra downspout is a solution. First, you'll need to decide where to add the downspout. If your current setup only has a single downspout, one option is to place a new one at the opposite end of the gutter. If you already have a downspout at each end, adding a third one in the middle can help to lighten the load.

You can hire a professional to add a downspout yourself by cutting into the existing gutter and attaching the necessary parts, such as an outlet and brackets.

One of the biggest causes of gutter leaks is clogged gutters. If your gutters are full of debris and leaves, water will back up and eventually overflow outside of the gutter. Other common causes of gutter leaks include loosened gutter fasteners, faulty gutter slopes (sagging gutters), separated joints, and cracks or holes.

If you’re replacing your roof, you don’t need to worry about replacing your gutters as long as they’re functional and in good condition. Some roofers may recommend temporarily removing gutters to prevent them from damage during a roof replacement, but the right professional can reduce this risk. Replacing your gutters would only be necessary if your gutters are in bad shape and already need replacing.

Outside of regular maintenance, most gutter repairs are best left to the pros. Most gutter projects require basic ladder safety and (sometimes) getting on top of your roof. Without the proper equipment (or if you generally get a little nervous with heights), you could put yourself at risk of serious injury. On top of that, improperly repaired gutters could result in longer term damage that requires a full replacement.

Yes, caulking or sealing your vinyl gutters is a good way to help prevent gutter leaks. When you’re installing gutters, it’s important to overlap the sections to help avoid issues like leaks or drips, but they can still happen. In this case, adding caulk can help. Make sure to use a caulk designed for multiple surfaces, like a silicone-based caulk. You can also purchase a gutter sealant as well, which is specifically designed for this purpose.
