Small jobs welcome

"I was extremely impressed with the professionalism, timeliness, and quality of this company. In addition they were fairly priced! They helped me with several projects on short notice and in a short span of time. Assessed and repaired some water damage behind a wall in my living room, removed wallpaper in two bathrooms, painted, removed an old 1960â s intercom system and repaired the large 12â x12â holes, framed and mounted a very large and heavy 3.5â x5.5â mirror, and repaired old slate front porch tiles. This team was flexible, accommodating, considerate, and hard working. They even made certain to clean everything upon departure. I will definitely be using Maintenance Pros for future projects and would absolutely recommend them to others!"

"I highly recommend Hammer Property Solutions LLC! They were hired to reassemble my Smith machine, and they did an outstanding job. Their pricing was very reasonable, and they even arrived earlier than my scheduled appointment, which I really appreciated. The team was professional, courteous, and worked efficiently while paying close attention to detail. They reassembled the Smith machine correctly, ensuring everything was secure, aligned, and ready to use before they left. If you’re looking for a reliable company that provides quality workmanship at a fair price, Hammer Property Solutions LLC is an excellent choice. I will definitely use their services again!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Whether you need a permit depends on the deck design and local regulations. Most areas mandate a building permit if the deck is over a specific height or if it's attached to a pre-existing structure. Shorter, freestanding decks may not require a permit, but you should check with local zoning ordinances and your homeowners association for specifics.

You can build an outdoor kitchen on a deck, but you should choose composite decking since it's more heat-resistant. Metal deck materials like steel and aluminum are also good choices because they're less flammable than wood. You should also consider the weight of the kitchen—make sure your deck can support it and any appliances you plan to use. You should consult a structural engineer to confirm exactly how much weight your deck can safely support when building an outdoor kitchen.

A deck that isn’t attached to a house is called a floating or freestanding deck. These standalone decks are built near ground level, so they usually don’t need deck stairs. Some don’t even require permits. Generally speaking, building a floating deck is faster and more DIY-friendly than constructing one that’s connected to your home.

A deck is typically attached to a house and accessed via the back door. Decks are usually constructed from wood or composite materials. A terrace, on the other hand, is a raised platform that can be attached to or detached from the house and is typically made from a hard-paved material, such as paving stones. Terraces can be built on the ground or on the roof of a home.

Be careful when choosing a product to help you remove ice from your wood deck. Never use sand, gravel, or salt, since these items can damage and scratch the wood. Instead, look for chemical de-icers that are marked as safe for wood decks or use hot water to melt snow and ice.
