"Found Sunlight through Homeadvisor. Have old solar hot water system that needed old pipes replaced. I did not think system was salvageable, and was going to cost thousands for new system. Sunlight came out and repaired old hot water solar system, and reset pump from water heater to solar collector. Did not need to buy new system. Very reasonable and professional, they new what they were doing and I appreciate their honesty. Now looking to redo pool solar and possibly add solar panels in the future and will use then. Highly recommend Sunlight Solar. Richard M"

"I am very happy to listen to Blake Blackmon with his recommendation to the size of my solar panel. Now I own the system over 2 months. My first FPL based on 2 weeks was cut down from $250 to $120 and was lucky at the time my monthly installation payments of $168 started in November. Now I got a FPL bill for the full month of November and my electric charge was 27 cents plus $9.70. This was a great surprize. I am sure I will have a small December bill due to my large Xmas lights. The solar installation was the best investment. I don't have to worry about FPL increases rather a monthly fixed installment payment. Black Blackmon is great and very knowledgable sales representative. I suggest any body who is thinking about solar panels to contact Black. Before Black I had 5 different solar panel company and happy I listen to Black who is very knowledgeable and has patient to answer all question. All American is a great company and did a great job. When I have questions they are answered very quickly"

"Rep. checked entire system. He found several wires not connected properly and fixed this. He also made recommendations regarding the attachment of the panels to the rood that would provide more stability and leakproofing. The representative appeared to know what he was doing - much better than others, including the representative who was engaged by the roofer (who replaced our rood due to hail damage) to disconnect/connect the panels."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

The time it takes to install solar panels depends on the number of panels and the size of your home, but installation takes between two and three days of work. While most contractors can install the panels over the course of a couple of days, switching to solar energy can take two to three months in total. This includes the time it takes to design the system, procure the parts, obtain the permits, install the panels, connect to the main power grid, and get an inspection.

The average cost to install solar panels is around $27,000, with most homeowners paying between $4,500 and $54,000. These prices don’t consider the federal investment tax credit (ITC), which can reduce costs by up to 30%. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of the system needed to offset your energy consumption, the amount of sunlight your home receives, your geographical location, the type and brand of panels, labor costs, and any add-on products like solar batteries or electric vehicle (EV) chargers. It is recommended to get price quotes from at least three solar companies in your area to find the best deal.

Solar panels should get at least four to six hours of direct sunlight daily. It’s even better if sunlight reaches panels between the peak hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. This is enough to power a home, depending on your solar system’s size and energy needs. Remember that panels will generate some power under cloudy skies or in the shade, and many systems compensate for lower sun exposure by drawing energy from the grid or battery storage.

Although solar panels harness the sun's power, they come at an environmental cost. The manufacturing process requires large amounts of water and involves hazardous materials like cadmium, silicon, and gallium arsenide. These materials don’t pose safety hazards while the panels are in use but can pose a problem when left in landfills. Over time, hazardous materials can leach into the environment. This is why recycling solar panels whenever possible is better than taking them to landfills.

The average homeowner needs around 22 solar panels, but the exact number depends on your monthly energy consumption. Your solar professional should size your array to offset your consumption, meaning you’ll need fewer panels if you use below-average amounts of electricity, or more than 22 if you use above-average amounts of electricity. The number of panels also depends on the output of each panel. The average is around 400 watts, but you might need more panels if you install less capable equipment. Since there are so many variables, you should have a professional size your system.
