"I did quite a bit of research before hiring. Was refered to Phipps Masonry & Stucco for a masonry project and was delightfully surprised by the estimate. A fraction of the price of other contractors. I had a bad leak and they fixed it and put new mortar in my chimney all in a day. Fast workers and easy communication. Ultimately, a combination of spraying followed by back-rolling is often the best strategy for a durable and even finish.

Depending on the amount of soot present, you can vacuum some of it using a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Then, remove the leftovers with a mild cleaner, such as dish soap or vinegar mixed with water. Before applying a cleaning solution, saturate the bricks with clean water to prevent the cleaner from penetrating beyond the surface and causing structural damage to the bricks.

Clean regularly, check for cracks, and inspect the chimney annually for safety.

You should clean your home’s brick once per year. This applies to exterior brick, but also to cleaning brick fireplaces. Create a homemade cleaning solution with equal parts vinegar and water. Use a soft-bristle brush to scrub the solution into the face of your brick and remove dirt, algae, and stains. Cleaning will protect brick from damage and boost your home’s curb appeal.
