"We have a half-moon window in the guest bedroom that we wanted to tint to decrease the amount of heat and sunlight that floods the room. When I first spoke to Robert, he was very cheerful and easy-going on the phone. I am pleased to say that his countenance wasn't any different in person. Robert gave us several options and answered our questions. We opted to place the darker tint without the security film as our windows are new and meets the current hurricane standard for our area. When Robert arrived at our home, he took his shoes off and placed a drop cloth on the floor to prevent any damage or staining to our carpets. He was professional, courteous and gives the impression that he cares for his customers and service that he provides. I would have given him all "A's" but he was late getting to our home. However, in fairness to him, he did call and texted to let me know that he was running behind. I would rehire Robert without hesitation. The amount we paid was less than the quote from one of the "big box chain stores". The window tinting matches the factory tint of the window below it flawlessly. We are extremely happy! B. Shiggs"

"As you can imagine, having your roof replaced is a big, expensive job and I was a little nervous about finding the right contractor to work with.  I decided to get an estimate from Keller Roofing because of the stellar reviws on AL, as well as some referrals from personal friends.  Steve was the person who came to do the estimate.  He arrived on time on the appointed day, did his assessment and gave me an estimate.  In addition he gave me a copy of the insurance coverage and invited me to call and confirm that the coverage was in effect. I was impressed by that. I got 3 other estimates from different companies and no one even mentioned insurance.  When I called a week later to accept the offer, Steve came by again to explain the preliminary requirements and procedures.  I had my own list of questions which he patiently answered in clear, understandable terms.  He returned to his truck several times to show me shingle samples and even walked around my neighborhood to point out the colors on different roofs.
The start of the job was delayed for several weeks because I was away for 2 weeks and when I returned it was right in the middle of
the busy (for me) holiday season.  Finally the date was set for Dec. 30,2013.  The work was supposed to begin around 8:00 am.  The crew arrived early and were on the roof by 7:30.  John (the owner) arrived with the dumpster around 8:15 am.  We spoke briefly before I had to leave.  He said the job would take 2 days or a bit more depending on weather and the final inspection.  There was light drizzle on and off over the next 2 days but it did not seem to deter them.  They cleaned up the work site at the end of each day.  I even noticed one of the workmen clearing debris from my gutter as the worked progressed.  The last of the shingles were installed on New Year's Day. (I did not even think they would show up on a holiday.)  The final inspection was done the next day. They left the property spotless; you would never have known they were there.
John came by the next day to give me the company warranty (10 yr workmanship) and for the shingles (30 yr)  as well as copies of all the other paperwork. The roof that was replaced was almost 20 years old and thank God, was still in pretty good shape.  There was only one small area of rotted wood which took 1/2 sheet of plywood to repair - and I was not charged for that.  The final cost was exactly the same as the estimate (minus the AL discount).  The roof looks great, and I would say that their reputation is well-deserved.  I would definitely recommend them and use their services in the future.  Thank you, gentlemen, for a job well done.

"I contacted Sunrise Roofing Services for a roof replacement. Karel gave me an estimate was thorough, timely, and to the penny accurate. He explained the entire process including providing insurance and license information. He installed a tarp to prevent any further leaks into my house (no additional cost). The project was delayed because I was out of town so we agreed to a no earlier than start date. When I returned they started the project within one day of that date. They showed up on time (exactly) and I ask to see the permit. They pointed to my front door where they had posted it prior to ringing the bell. I was impressed. The old roof was removed and Florida required nailing patterns completed (including the nailing affidavit). The decking was repaired. A new underlayment, roof, vents, skylights, and flashings were installed. Cleanup was thorough. All of this was completed in one day including local building permit inspections. The following day the owner, Maria Flores, came by for payment. She came prepared with Lien release forms, warranty information, affidavit of contractors final payment as well as an invoice. We settled up while discussing her business. I relayed to her the things that impressed me most. 1. She has an actual place of business (not working out of her house like too many contractors) 2. No down payment required. 3. All of the roof installers are employees (not day workers). 4. All the paperwork was completed and presented in a timely manner. 5. Her employees are top notch. Installing a roof in the summertime in Florida is brutal. They probably deserve a raise. 6. Her company is a certified installer of the CertainTeed roofing line of products. I verified this with CertainTeed prior to contracting her. Maria was cordial, well prepared, and thorough. I found that she runs a professional business with good people and would have no problem recommending her to everyone."

"Everyone at Solar Shield was very nice and professional. We had a few concerns when the moisture barrier was installed and we still had rain in our bedroom. Frank got it corrected the next day, and finished the roof the following week. The good news: very nice looking roof with no more leaks. The bad news: we got pictures of the hurricane straps installed and had the roof inspected by our insurance company. They found that the hurricane straps installed were not up to their standards and neither was the moisture barrier. They also found multiple slats (we didn’t have decking that covered the whole roof - old house) that were split and compromised during the work, so we were unable to qualify for any insurance discounts. Overall, we have a nice looking roof - top of the line from Solar Shield Industries. Hopefully, it will last a lifetime. But unfortunately, we have some decking remediation that needs to be done and we still need hurricane straps, which will probably be clips now. Not a big enough deal for me to raise a stink. I can retro clips and repair the few decking issues from the attic & under siding. And apparently, the moisture barrier is just not what the insurance company accepts as a “moisture barrier.”"
All of the doors and windows were replaced by National HomeCraft.

"Ray was very knowledgeable and professional when he cam out for the consultation.   He gave us different options of window sizing and shapes to fit the space and a webiste from the window company to review the different products.  Creating the new opening for the larger window required cutting through the concrete block exterior wall.    This produced a large amount of fine concrete dust.   Ray's crew made every effort to keep the dust contained to the room they were working in.   We did have to leave the house without a window for one night, but placed a board over the hole to help keep the AC in and bugs out.   They installed the new window, window sill, repaired drywall around the interior window, stucco around the exterior of the window and painted the wall.   When they were done the widow looked great....but as we inspected it there was a scratch/dent in the frame of the window from damage when it was shipped.  We called Ray and he came out to inspect the damage.   We discussed the options on attempting to fix the window, but in the end decided to order a new window and replace it.   The new windows kept arriving damaged, and by new order # 4 we recieved one without any issues.   Ray's team had to rip out the old one and replace the new one, which was another full day of work.  He was very patient with us through the whole process and wanted to ensure that the job was completed to our satisfaction.  I would definately use him again."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Prevent future skylight issues by conducting regular inspections, ensuring gutters are clean to prevent water pooling, applying protective sealants periodically, and trimming overhanging branches that might cause physical damage to the skylight.

While it is possible to install a skylight as a DIY project, it is not recommended. Skylights are the most likely type of window to leak due to their position on the roof. Even minor mistakes during installation can lead to significant water damage and high repair costs. Additionally, working on a roof is dangerous, especially when maneuvering heavy, bulky windows. Due to the required roof modifications and the need for proper sealing and structural safety, hiring a professional skylight installer is strongly advised to avoid costly long-term issues.

Skylights increase natural light, improve ventilation, and enhance aesthetic appeal in rooms.

Repairing or replacing a skylight generally takes between a few hours to a full day. Simple repairs might take 2 to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the problem. The total time can vary based on factors like weather conditions, the accessibility of the skylight, and the extent of the work required, such as replacing the entire unit versus performing minor repairs.

Yes, you can replace a skylight without changing the entire roof—if the roof is in good shape. First, you need to make sure the roof around the skylight is intact and free of damage. Quality installation is crucial to prevent leaks, including replacing the flashing, which seals the skylight to the roof. While replacing the skylight alone is doable, it can make sense to replace both at once to streamline the work, coordinate the warranties, and reduce the risk of future leaks. If you’re unsure, reach out to a professional for help in deciding the best approach.
