"Best painting (construction) service I have ever had. Joey came in, gave us an estimate, hit budget, beat expecting timing by about a week. Results are basically... perfect. As we don't live local to the beach house, we had to communicate via txt and it was awesome - pics every day on the work done. Highly recommend!"

"Kirk came highly recommended. He is very reasonable, professional and trustworthy. Not only is he a painter but he repaired the seams in our drywall - the walls look great and so does our paint job! We are also going to have him stain our deck. We couldn’t be happier with the total experience. We, also highly recommend this contractor!!"

"Mike Tilles was quick, efficient, and enthusiastic about providing the initial estimate. Those same characteristics were applied to our interior paint job. He was patient and helpful with color choices. His crew was professional and personable. They carefully moved, covered, and replaced the furniture so that we could continue living here while the work was done. The job is done and it's fantastic! We got an excellent job at a fair price performed by high-quality professionals who went the extra mile to ensure our satisfaction. We would definitely recommend them and will rehire them when needed. Thanks Ameristar and Servicemagic!"

"Certa Pro was excellent to work with. They removed the popcorn from the ceilings and retextured them to my satisfaction in addition to painting 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. Very professional. Entire staff was helpful and available when I needed them. I would definitely use them again."

"Alex and Maria were amazing! I called for an estimate and they came the same afternoon, Tuesday. Their price was reasonable, so I hired them. They started on Friday, and were done by Wednesday. I had huge cracks in the drywall of my living room and kitchen ceilings, and a lesser one in my bathroom, due to poorly-performed repairs by the previous owner. Alex and Maria and their crew expertly and quickly covered all the surfaces and removed the paint and texture to discover the extent of the damage. Once they had done that, they didn't just patch the crack, they made a proper repair, so that the cracking wouldn't happen again. They then primed and painted the whole ceiling, and touched up the walls. When it turned out that I had given them the wrong color paint (my mistake in color-matching) and the wall had a slightly-different color stripe on it, Maria came and cheerfully repainted that part of the wall with the correct color to correct MY mistake. They were super friendly, very professional, and extremely quick. I would hire them again in a heartbeat, and I recommend them to anyone who asks."

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

While it is possible to paint over wallpaper, it is generally better to remove it first to guarantee a smooth, professional finish. Painting over wallpaper can save time, but it may lead to issues if not done correctly.

You can paint over existing wallpaper if it is in excellent condition: smooth, non-textured, clean, and firmly adhered to the wall. Ensure there are no bumps, tears, or peeling areas, and that all corners and seams are securely glued down. You might also consider painting over wallpaper if removing it would damage the underlying wall. Additionally, some wallpapers are specifically designed to be paintable, which can add texture to a room.

However, there are risks. If the wallpaper is textured, damaged, or peeling, these imperfections will show through the new paint. The moisture from the paint can also loosen the wallpaper's adhesive, causing it to bubble and potentially damage the wall. To mitigate these issues, clean the surface thoroughly and use an oil-based primer to help the paint adhere and prevent the old adhesive from bleeding through.

Accent walls can feel out of place or distracting if not well designed. Accent walls that don’t fit in with a room’s style can feel jarring or overpowering. Some accent wall styles can also feel dated, but fortunately, it’s easier to update a single wall than an entire room.

If you can already see the texture of the existing wallpaper through the layer of paint, then the texture could also come through the new layer of wallpaper. If that’s the aesthetic you want, then proceed. But if you want a smoother surface, you should either strip off the existing paint and wallpaper or hang a layer of liner paper before proceeding.

The average cost to remove wood paneling is $2,800, but total costs may be higher or lower depending on the size of the room, your location, and the amount of prep work required. Once the paneling is gone, you may have additional costs depending on the condition of the wall beneath.

It can take a professional anywhere between several hours and a full day to remove wallpaper in one room. How long wallpaper removal takes depends on the type of adhesive, the wallpaper’s age, the condition of the walls, and more.
