"My purchasing experience was very pleasant. Reason for the 1 star is that they don't stand by their products. I purchased 220 plans from them including sea grapes, cocoplums, and other ground cover. All 50 cocoplums died slowly while all other plans thrived. I purchased through a landscaper. I called them and spoke to Jessica and explained the situation and asked to "buy 50" replacement plants at the landscaper rates (that I had paid before). She asked for photos which I provided. I called back and she lectured me on the complexity of analyzing the "pictures" of the dead plants and that she would call back on what they can do. 3 weeks to-date and nothing heard back. So if you're looking for a company to stand by their products, Edward Miller is not the company for you."

Greenhouses and Nurseries questions, answered by experts

Sustainable materials and energy-efficient designs support greener construction options.

Don’t forget to factor in the climate where you live during the planning stage. If your area is prone to bitter cold and heavy snow, you might want to invest in stronger greenhouse materials like a concrete slab, steel frame, and glass walls or plan to take your greenhouse down for the winter.

The only real drawback to green building is that it’s more expensive up front, with per-square-foot prices sitting 33% higher than what you’d pay to build a traditional home. The higher cost is due to more expensive building materials and more labor to ensure every aspect of the home is as efficient as possible. However, green buildings often save money in the long run, so this is just a temporary downside.

The choice is really yours. Greenhouses available in kits can make the job go quicker. You can find greenhouse kits to match your style and size needs. If you enjoy designing and planning, you can build your own from materials of your choosing. Just be sure to do your research beforehand so everything ends up structurally sound.

The quickest way you can protect plants and trees from frost is to cover them with garden blankets or frost cloths. Also, bringing potted plants or trees indoors is much simpler than trying to cover and protect them outdoors. Remember to anchor blankets with something such as sandbags, fabric pins, or rocks if the forecast calls for strong winds to keep them from blowing away and exposing your trees and plants.
