"Jim and his crew did excellent work removing old wallpaper from our two-story foyer and dining room, and then painting our foyer, upstairs hallway, living room, and dining room. Removing the wallpaper was a tough job and required many hours of prep work to ensure the walls were smooth and ready for painting afterwards. Sayers paid great attention to detail, making sure all seams and nail pops where hidden, and all molding was caulked to perfection. Sayers also made sure that dust and dirt stayed within the work area, and they vacuumed at the end of each day. In addition to their excellent work, they had the lowest bid out of the four contractors that bid on the project. I will hire Sayers for my future painting projects."

"I was given Larry’s name by a family friend to quote re-doing my living room and bedroom ceiling. Larry was quick to get back to my phone call as well as begin the work. His quote was fair, better than two others I had received! Larry worked quickly and did an amazing job. He kept me informed throughout the entire job and was so easy to talk to. After meeting him, I trusted him to be in my home alone, using a lock box, which allowed for him to come on his schedule without me having to be there. Larry did a wonderful job, going above and beyond to touch up some imperfections on my walls as well. I would 100% recommend Larry to anyone looking for drywall/Sheetrock work done! Thanks again Larry!"

"I hired Dominic's Painting to paint the entire exterior of my old (1700's) colonial home in the Summer of 2017. This was a very big project and they did such a fantastic job that I hired them once again to paint (and wallpaper) the interior of my house in late 2017. I was totally satisfied with all the work that they did. They were punctual, hardworking and very professional at all times. I had gotten several other job estimates before hiring them and their price was the most reasonable for the work. John is a pleasure to work with and I have no hesitation in recommending this company to anyone who needs either interior or exterior paining done. I particularly recommend them for the difficult job of painting an old home. My home needed a lot of plastering and special care and nothing was a problem for them. They went above and beyond my expectations-always ready to do anything that was needed. Check this company out before you hire anyone else!"

"Overall it was a bumpy ride, but the end result is very good.  I feel the supervisor was basically absent from the job, and clearly did not ensure the crew understood exactly what was to be painted.  I had to inspect and supervise the job from start to finish, and ended up having to bring them back twice to finish the job because areas were either not given a second coat, or were missed altogether.  The end result is fantastic, but only because I was such a stickler and made them come back and fix things to my satisfaction.  I would still recommend them because their price was great as compared to multiple other estimates, and the quality of their work is strong, as long as you are willing to stay on top of them and inspect thoroughly.  Throughout the job, they were very respectful, friendly, and cleaned up after themselves very well."

".He came one day after i called for an estimate and gave a lower estimate in case we wanted to try to finish removing the paper and buy the paint. we said no give us an estimate with all the work done by him the second estimate was $460 and still was well worth it for the work it involved. He had a couple of days work because of the skimcoating needing drying time. from beginning to end, he was here 3 times and each time at exactly 8:30 AM. he worked diligently and was an extremely competent painter. i decided to call him the wall doctor because i didn't think anybody could fix our horrible wall that nice for so little. i recommend him to anybody.

"It was great. Joe and an his assistant came to the house and prepped and painted the master bedroom and master bath. He was very meticulous and took great care to protect all surfaces. He did a great job. There was one small touch up that was required. I called him back and he took care of it right away."

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

While you can remove wallpaper yourself, it is a labor-intensive process that risks damaging your walls. Common DIY methods include using a steamer to loosen the adhesive or spraying the paper with a solution of hot water and vinegar or dish soap before scraping. However, steamers can cause irreparable damage if used incorrectly, and the spray-and-scrape method can harm drywall if it gets too wet or you scrape too aggressively. For these reasons, hiring a professional is often the fastest, easiest, and safest option. A pro has the experience and specialized tools to remove wallpaper efficiently without damaging the underlying surface, which saves time and minimizes the prep work needed for your next wall treatment.

In most cases, it is not recommended to wallpaper over existing wallpaper, as the success depends on the type of paper already on the wall. While you might be able to cover non-coated wallpaper, you should never apply new wallpaper over a vinyl-coated one, which is more common. Doing so can lead to poor adhesion, resulting in bubbles, imperfections, and peeling. It can also trap moisture, potentially causing hazardous mold growth between the layers.

Even if the existing wallpaper is suitable, experts recommend applying only one new layer. Adding multiple layers (more than two total) can cause significant adhesion problems, leading to warping and bubbling. For the best results, the recommended approach is to remove the old wallpaper and all paste residue before hanging the new paper. If you are unsure about your wallpaper type, consider consulting a professional.

We don’t recommend wallpapering over older paper. That’s because creating layers of glue can invite bubbling or excess moisture on the wall’s surface. You should also prime your wall before applying wallpaper and smooth the wall as much as you can, and another layer of wallpaper complicates this process.

If you can already see the texture of the existing wallpaper through the layer of paint, then the texture could also come through the new layer of wallpaper. If that’s the aesthetic you want, then proceed. But if you want a smoother surface, you should either strip off the existing paint and wallpaper or hang a layer of liner paper before proceeding.

Accent walls can feel out of place or distracting if not well designed. Accent walls that don’t fit in with a room’s style can feel jarring or overpowering. Some accent wall styles can also feel dated, but fortunately, it’s easier to update a single wall than an entire room.
