"Tony was a great communicator. We were asking for a custom build fence. We had contacted some of the basic fence companies prior to getting Tony’s name and no one would even quote us. He basically helped design in and pulled the permit for us. The end product was great and we’d recommend."

"Accessible Home Builders recently converted our backyard deck into a 3-season sunroom. The communication throughout the job was probably the best we have had with a home improvement contractor. We are very pleased with the final result, and would be glad to do business with Scott again. - Gordon and Martha MacPherson"

"I have used Danny at least 10 times. He remodeled an investment property I purchased and did carpentry, flooring , some electrical and plumbing. His work is EXCEPTIONAL and he has the strongest attention to details. His carpentry skills are next level, he rebuilt a stairwell and raised a roof as well. Very trustworthy guy, and did a lot of the work for me with no supervision as the property was in another state. Never had any issues and he sent pictures of the work daily. Additionally after the work was completed I started using him in my personal home in pa and he did flooring/ tile and built shelving, installed toilets and sinks and built a bar in my basement. All the work was great! Prices are very fair !!"

"Terry and Alex are the best of the best! Everything you could possibly want in contractors and more. Terry is highly skilled, detailed oriented, honest and reliable. He is a great communicator and super easy to work and so is Alex. What was so helpful for us was that Terry was able to draw up plans and get all of the necessary permits and provide suggestions based on his wealth of experience. His workmanship is topnotch. He doesn't cut corners and always seems more interested in doing the job right than making money. Another great thing is that while Terry could be a GC and just sub everything out, he does most of the work himself (framing, build deck, flooring, siding, window installs, etc etc) so you know you are getting his perfectionistic touch on your job at a very fair price. I also appreciated patience and flexibility, especially when we decided last minute to open up a kitchen wall and then add a huge window when he was almost done with the siding. Very grateful!"

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

It’s much less expensive to build a house with wood. This is because wood is relatively inexpensive, strong enough to endure decades or even centuries of weathering and pressure, and is easier to replace if there are issues. The cost of stone houses are incredibly expensive, heavy, time-consuming to build, and difficult to repair.

This answer varies based on where you are, but most states require that all homes are greater than 320 square feet. Remember that four walls are not the only requirements—windows, closet space, minimal ceiling heights, and indoor air quality are also factors. Each state and municipality differs, though, and as some don’t consider tiny homes permanent shelters, you’ll need to check to ensure you aren’t violating any local or state laws with your build.

Tiny houses, often called tiny homes, need between 100 to 400 square feet, with the most common size being between 200 and 300 square feet. Tiny houses more than 400 square feet venture into apartment-size dwellings and may be considered more of a traditional house than a tiny home. The number of occupants, desired lifestyle, and furniture will all be major factors that determine the desired tiny house size.

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

You may need a local building permit and written permission from your homeowner’s association to install a shed, especially if you’re doing any substantial land clearing or installing electricity or plumbing. Permit requirements vary between municipalities, so research the local laws before starting your project. If you hire a contractor to build the shed, they can help determine which permits will be necessary.
