The differences between a bay window versus a bow window involve the number of individual windows and the angle at which both windows extend from the home. A bow window has four to six individual windows that form a curve outside the exterior wall. A bay window usually has two small windows on the edges that angle outward from the exterior wall and a large window in the middle that’s parallel to the home’s exterior wall.

The key difference between a hung window and an awning window is that hung windows (including single-hung and double-hung versions) slide vertically to open and close. In contrast, awning windows have a hinge at the top and open outward at an angle. You can use both types of windows throughout your home, but awning windows are best suited for kitchens and bathrooms.

The disadvantages of putting plastic over your windows are that they are time-consuming to install and don’t always have the aesthetic that you may be looking for. The plastic is lightweight and not at all sturdy, so if you have kids or pets, the plastic can rip easily, meaning you’ll need to replace it often. It also doesn’t allow for the freedom of window movement that window film or shades offer.
