"Tylor was quick to respond to my inquiry and very accommodating to fix my problem as soon as he could. His expertise was shown as he diagnosed the possible issue over the phone and he had it fixed in no time once he arrived. He even fixed a lesser issue for no extra charge. I found his rates exceptional, and he will always be my first call for any of my future electrical issues."

"This was the second job I hired ESC for, the first was a hot tub hookup, and this one wasn't a simple one: install a generator hook up that bypassed only some of my critical circuits to the generator, while leaving the rest of the house on the grid. This required a pretty complex panel with multiple switches and breakers. He did a neat and tidy job and was in and out in about 3 hours! He does the work alone, showed up on time, does a timely, high-quality job and is friendly and considerate to my needs, as a COVID-19 Locked down, WFH customer and he also worked with me on the quote, to get the number where I needed it to be. Kevin *IS* his business, meaning he does the jobs by day and the and invoicing and estimates by night. As he told me: he wants the work but, working on jobs all day doesn't leave much time for getting back to quote request and questions. I think he could do a better job of communicating that up front (why he took a slight ding on my customer service rating) but ultimately I was really glad I waited him out. In short, I'd definitely recommend ESC for your household electrical work, just be patient with his getting back to you. I will likely hire him again."

"I highly recommend Deary Electric. After finding them through Home Advisor, I spoke on the phone with Josh just a few minutes later. They arrived when he said and called ahead 30 minutes before he arrived. Once here, Josh and his partner were able to quickly figure out what the problem was and fixed it shortly thereafter. Cost was more than fair; money well spent. Will definitely call them for future work."

"I had a small electrical fire on a Saturday from out dated cloth wire. These guys showed up got it fixed to where my house was safe and came back on a Sunday to get it 100 percent done rewiring my out door lights for my front door. Amazing professional work. They came back a little later and re wiring my entire house for me new panel new wires handled the permit. I can’t say enough about their work and professionalism I have no issue leaving them a key to work while I’m not home. Again amazing quality work"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

To reduce AC startup power for a whole-house generator, install a soft start kit or hard start capacitor, which lowers the initial surge by gradually ramping up the compressor. Using a smart load manager can also help by staggering startup loads, preventing a system overload and future costly repairs.

The average cost to install a home generator is $5,200, but total costs can range from $500 to $18,000 or more. The final price depends on several factors, including the generator's size, type, brand, fuel source, and the cost of labor and assembly. The generator's size is the most significant cost factor, as units that can power larger homes with higher energy demands cost more.

Cost breakdowns by generator type are typically as follows:

  • Portable or Emergency Backup Generators (1kW–7.5kW): $500–$2,000

  • Partial-Home Generators (9kW–20kW): $2,000–$6,500

  • Whole-House Generators (22kW–48kW): $5,000–$18,000

To ensure you get the right size unit for your needs without overpaying, consider hiring an electrician to calculate the electrical load of your essential appliances. It is also recommended to get at least three quotes from qualified installers to find the best fit for your budget.

Whole-house generators need to be installed on level ground several feet away from walls and other objects. Because they tap into the electrical system directly, they usually need to be close to your home electrical panel for a transfer switch installation. It also helps with installation if they are near to a gas line or propane tank installation.

Costs depend on generator type, labor, and additional wiring or transfer switch requirements.

To power a central air system during a power outage, the whole-house generator will need to be at least 5,000 watts, and this number will significantly increase for larger units. Check the specific wattage requirements of your AC unit to choose the right generator size. Consider consulting a generator installer to ensure your whole-house generator meets your electrical load needs.
