"Highly recommend contacting them for electrical work! Responded quickly to come and give a quote for a generator hook up. Explained everything thoroughly and gave helpful suggestions as this was my first experience getting a generator to power the house. Very reasonable pricing. From first contact to getting it installed in under 2 weeks. Very happy!!"

"Tylor was quick to respond to my inquiry and very accommodating to fix my problem as soon as he could. His expertise was shown as he diagnosed the possible issue over the phone and he had it fixed in no time once he arrived. He even fixed a lesser issue for no extra charge. I found his rates exceptional, and he will always be my first call for any of my future electrical issues."

"He was right on time with coming out to see the problem. His charge is $90/Hour. He suggested to change out the generator transfer switch with an interlock. The problem was a defective circuit switch in the transfer panel. He quoted $450 for the interlock install. I checked the prices. The interlock cost about $65 and it's about 1 hour work. That would be about $135.00 He said he couldn't get the individual switch. I got it from Reliance for $19."

"I highly recommend Deary Electric. After finding them through Home Advisor, I spoke on the phone with Josh just a few minutes later. They arrived when he said and called ahead 30 minutes before he arrived. Once here, Josh and his partner were able to quickly figure out what the problem was and fixed it shortly thereafter. Cost was more than fair; money well spent. Will definitely call them for future work."

"I had a small electrical fire on a Saturday from out dated cloth wire. These guys showed up got it fixed to where my house was safe and came back on a Sunday to get it 100 percent done rewiring my out door lights for my front door. Amazing professional work. They came back a little later and re wiring my entire house for me new panel new wires handled the permit. I can’t say enough about their work and professionalism I have no issue leaving them a key to work while I’m not home. Again amazing quality work"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

A 1,500 square foot home will likely need a 15kW to 20kW generator. When deciding on whole-house generator size, add up the total wattage of the devices that you’d like to continue running during a power outage. That way, you can ensure you purchase a generator that can power your necessary appliances or medical equipment during an electrical emergency.

If you’re deciding between a solar battery versus a generator for the best backup power solution, you can take a few factors into consideration. Solar batteries are quiet while generators can be quite loud. Generators have a lower up-front cost, but they require fuel and ongoing maintenance while solar batteries are more expensive but don’t have many ongoing costs.

While natural gas generators are costly, they’re a great option for standby power due to the reliability of natural gas as a fuel source. Unlike other fuels, natural gas is delivered through underground pipes, making outages extremely rare and less likely to be affected by the elements. As long as the area isn’t prone to earthquakes, they offer an unlimited supply of natural gas that doesn’t degrade over time or require storage in tanks.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

With proper maintenance, a whole-house generator can last between 20 and 40 years. The specific lifespan depends on how often and for how long the generator is used, and some models may have their life expectancy rated in hours of operation. To maximize its lifespan, expect to spend around $150 to $300 per year for annual maintenance checks from a qualified technician. During these checks, a technician will inspect the engine filter, starting mechanism, fuel, lubrication, and coolant levels. Consulting your installer and choosing a low-impact fuel like natural gas or diesel can also help ensure your generator lasts as long as possible.
