"Carlos Souza of JJT Landscaping is outstanding! I give him my highest recommendation. He is an incredibly hard worker, is conscientious, and takes great pride in his work. He is efficient and gets the job done as quickly as possible. He cleared leaves, mowed grass, removed weeds and saplings from a steep bank, and went above and beyond in every part of the job, all for a reasonable rate. He has a great sense of what looks good in landscaping and makes good recommendations for how to improve the overall appearance of the property. I am thrilled to have found him for our landscaper."

"Front of my stairs were starting to crumble and looked gross. I was having a hard time finding a permanent solution, at a reasonable price, and had curb appeal. Had a couple quotes but I’m glad I went with Design and Build Masonry LLC. Very nice people, family owned, and did an awesome job! Will be having them take care of some more projects for me."

"We shopped around several local companies to quote a big project around our pool and some landscaping beds. From the beginning every communication with Alex Masonry was prompt and professional. They came out and took the time to listen to what we envisioned, suggested a few alternatives and helped us come to a final product. Even before we committed to the project, they helped us find showrooms to view the product, offered to meet us there (we declined) and helped walk us through exactly what we needed to see. Their quote wasn't the lowest, and certainly not the highest, but based on what we saw early on, it was certainly the best quality for the price paid. We felt like we were getting our monies worth and that was very important to us. Once we committed to using Alex Masonry, they came out one final time before work started and walked us through every step, meticulously making sure we were all on the same page, to ensure the project came out exactly how we hoped. A reassuring final step before the work actually started. Basic description of the project was to completely remove the existing paver patio around the inground pool. Excavate the old base material and install new base and pavers around the pool. We decided to add river rock beds in certain areas to change the look and feel of the space. They also removed and rebuilt a 40 foot section of a landscaping retaining wall, used an anchoring system and tethered wall to it. They also trenched and designed a drainage system to alleviate future water problems. This required quite extensive manual removal of large buried rocks and some pneumatic drilling of ledge. In addition, they built a large fire pit and capped with existing bluestone steps that were recycled from the demo. I would enthusiastically recommend Alex Masonry. Great crew, hard working, prompt and do an outstanding job. You will be hard pressed to find a company that does such quality work and craftsmanship for the price. Thank you and your crew! We love the new space!"

"They were on time and repaired the 2 walls efficiently and within 2 days. The work was excellent restoring the wall better than they were before. The cost was moderate and I would definitely have them do more work for me in the future."

Landscapers typically charge $25 to $50 per person per hour, which equals around $50 to $100 per hour for a two-person crew. These rates can vary depending on your location, the size of staff needed for the job, and overall job type. For example, a larger crew will be needed for structural additions and hardscaping versus planting flowers.
When it comes to landscapers, licensing laws vary. Landscaping architects are required to be licensed in all 50 states, whereas traditional landscaping contractors are not typically required to hold a certification. You’ll likely be working with a landscaping contractor for most residential projects. If you are redesigning your whole yard or adding in hardscape features, you will work with a landscaping architect at some point during the project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local landscaper guidelines.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
If you want landscaping done but want to save some money on the overall fees, you can do a few things at every stage. Some ways to save money on your landscaping include:
Repurpose existing features and materials
Softscape instead of hardscape
Choose the more inexpensive materials
DIY when you can
Buy young plants instead of mature ones
If you are an avid DIYer and have plenty of time to dedicate to your yard, doing your own landscaping (or at least some of it) can be an affordable option. Projects like planting a tree, planting grass, laying sod, or building a firepit can realistically be done without the need for a landscaping professional. However, these projects can take considerable time and some landscaping knowledge, so having a pro might save you in the long run.
Projects that are dangerous, like digging with heavy machinery or removing a tree, should always be done by a professional.
Landscaping costs around $3,500 but varies widely from $200 to $14,000. Factors that play a part in your final landscaping price tag include:
Location
Yard size
Project size
Materials
Land preparation
Type of landscaping
Considering so many factors, it’s not surprising that the overall costs can differ. A typical landscaping project is flower bed installation, which averages between $800 and $3,000. However, landscape lighting installation is a higher-end project, with a price tag of $2,000 to $6,000.
