"Thrasher did a good job on the basement foundation and installation of new sump pump. A little pricey. Workers were prompt, courteous and cleaned up when done."

"FEMA required that our commercial property grade be raised out of the new floodplain. I pulled together bids from numerous companies and got their opinion on how they would go about the project because of it being in a hard to reach area. Of all the bids, Buds was the most affordable, and his approach to handling the project was very straight forward and made the most sense. He got started right away and stayed on the project every day until it was complete, which didn't take long. He stuck to his quote and there were no surprises. The site has been surveyed and the work looks good down to every detail. Bud and his company BMG Services will always be my go-to service provider for any future projects."

"This is the second time I hire Lion Home Service. They provide excellent customer service and give you an estimate up front. We needed an outlet in our basement for an elliptical machine and the technician did an amazing job. When the time comes to finish my basement I will definitely call this company to do the rest of the wiring. We are very happy. Thanks!"

"The unusually cold weather 2/21 caused the outside faucet where you attach the garden hose to freeze and break, was expecting to have to wait (due to the hundreds of other broken pipes all over the area) but Luke from Family First Plumbing & Heating called right after I sent the request and was there within 3 hours. He was prepared with the correct good quality parts in his truck to get pipe fixed up right away. He then suggested installing a shut-off on the line inside so this wonâ t freeze anymore. I can turn water off at end of summer, and never have this problem again. He quoted everything first and has flexible payment options. Came back two days later to do improvement, no additional costs or surprises. He works fast, is respectful and friendly. All around positive experience and I will definitely be calling again."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

If you don’t wish to dig it out and convert it into a finished basement, you can still encapsulate your crawl space to protect it from damage for an average cost of $5,500. Finishing a crawl space beyond this isn’t really worthwhile, as the low ceilings mean you won’t be able to use the area as living space.

It’s not the number of weep holes that should be of concern to builders but rather their spacing. Weep holes are usually spaced anywhere between 16 inches on center when using round tubes or wicking materials and 24 inches on center when using open-head joints. This is a more conservative spacing than the 33-inch maximum spacing on center that’s mentioned in the International Residential Code. All in all, the total number of weep holes a brick exterior should have will depend on the size of the structure.

Yes, a crawl space can add value to your home. However, there is a higher chance of it adding value if it is an enclosed crawl space, as this reduces issues caused by excess moisture in the home. That being said, a basement does add more value than a crawl space.

Yes, you can technically make a crawl space liveable, but the only way to do so is by converting it into a basement. While some crawl spaces are big enough to walk through and store large items, they lack appropriate insulation and space to be liveable.

Water can seep into porous materials like wood beams, floor joists, and roof rafters within minutes, but they’ll need to see prolonged exposure before you have structural damage. Mold can start growing within 24 hours, and mold can eat away at the structural components over time. Wood rot is more of a concern, though. Wet and dry rot are fungal infections that set in in moist conditions and rapidly deteriorate wood, causing major structural damage within just a few months in some cases.
