"I had been planning to use granite in my kitchen from another shop but just couldn't settle my mind with the choices so I kept looking and saw Jesse's write-up on Angie's for solid surface counter tops and called him. He returned my call promptly, apologetic that he had his saw running when I called and hadn't heard the phone. We made an appointment. I saw Jesse 3 times.  First to give me a rough estimate based on samples he brought and rough measurements he took. He emailed a bid the same day.  The second time was to finalize my materials choices, validate the bid, template the "naked" cabinets (the new cabinets were installed but had nothing on top) and take the new sink with him so he could install it in the counter top at his shop. He told me he would be back to install the counter tops the following week. He called the night before the install to confirm, then on install day called to say he would arrive earlier if that was OK. When he arrived he immediately set to work installing the counter tops and in just about 2 hours he was done. By done I mean the counter tops were installed, the was no damage to anything, AND the area was completely cleaned up. During all my contacts with Jesse, he was professional, no BS, gave me a fair price adjustment when I added some work at the last minute, did what he said he would do and left me feeling confident I had made the right choice. My counter tops are well-made, my sink will NEVER slip from its moorings, and I couldn't be happier with the results.  I highly recommend Jesse."

Concrete countertops usually cost more than granite. The average overall cost to install concrete countertops is $50 to $150 per square foot. While concrete materials might be cheaper than slabs of granite, the labor costs are considerably higher as it takes more time, specialized equipment and skill to form customized concrete countertops.

While no countertop material is truly “heatproof,” granite countertops are extremely resistant to high temperatures. Some types of granite can withstand temperatures up to 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. However, we don’t recommend placing hot pots and pans directly on granite countertops. Even if it doesn’t scar the granite, it may damage the sealant.

The least porous countertop material is engineered quartz. Made from a blend of natural quartz and resins, it is non-porous and highly resistant to stains, scratches, and bacteria. This makes quartz countertops exceptionally low-maintenance and durable, ideal for kitchens and bathrooms where hygiene and easy upkeep are priorities. Other non-porous options include solid surface materials like Corian, which also offer excellent resistance to moisture and stains.

It is not recommended to put a hot pan directly on a marble countertop. While marble is heat-resistant, it is not completely heat-proof, and extreme or prolonged exposure to high heat can cause discoloration, cracking, or chipping. Pans may also scratch or nick the surface. To protect your countertop and maintain its integrity, always use trivets or hot pads. Note that faux marble finishes do not resist heat and require protection from hot items at all times.
