Moles live underground and feed on insects. They dig and move through tunnels, usually in meadows or forests but sometimes in lawns and gardens. They are about 6 inches long with large claws, tiny eyes, and hidden ears. 

Shrews do not dig their own tunnels but will use other animals’ tunnels, and are about 3 to 4 inches long. They look similar to mice and feed on insects.

Voles are similar in size to moles but have large eyes and small but visible ears. Rather than eating insects, voles are herbivores that prefer seeds, grasses, and plant roots.

Unfortunately, we do. Bed bugs sense our heat signature, particularly the altered heat signature associated with sleep, and exit their hiding spots to feast.

Bed bugs bite your body to feed on blood. When they bite, they inject an anticoagulant, which is why you may see blood stains on your sheets if you have an infestation. The bed bugs tend to bite in clusters, so the bite marks will look like itchy, red spots in zigzagging lines of three to five bites per cluster on your skin.

The bites are itchy, but for most people, they do not cause serious or long-term health complications. Itching the wound excessively could lead to an infection, and some people are allergic to bed bugs.

Luckily, spiders rarely “infest” a home like many other pests. They don’t tend to live in groups except when first born, and prefer their space. But you can prevent them from gaining entry by making sure your home is well-sealed and free of other insects. You can also lay down barrier sprays or powders designed to repel or kill spiders. Professionals can also lay down these barriers to prevent future spider problems.

Silverfish can infest a bed, but it’s not likely unless you have a major infestation. Silverfish may be attracted to the fabric of the bed and the dark corners of the mattress, so you should check your bed thoroughly if you are seeing silverfish throughout the house. Seeing them in bed is a bad sign, because it means they are eating your cotton or silk sheets while they’re there.
