"Contacted Austin after seeing a pond project they had done. We needed a complete rebuild and just didn?t have time to do it ourselves. He was quick to respond and set up communication to ensure things were in place to do the job. Scheduled a time that worked around our schedule and was here on time. He and his crew took our vision and made it happen! I enjoyed spending the day with him and the crew. They were great about asking my input and were not bothered at all if I made suggestions for change. I found them to be very fair and affordable. I will post pictures soon. Thank you all!! We love it."

Aquarium Services questions, answered by experts

It is not normal to smell your septic outside and indicates a problem such as an unsealed manhole or access lid, a clogged septic line, a faulty vent stack, or the need for a septic tank pumping. If sewage is leaking from your septic system, it can be hazardous to you, your family, pets, and the surrounding environment. You can troubleshoot the issue yourself, or contact a septic tank pro who can resolve the issue quickly.

To prevent drain clogs, perform regular maintenance and cleaning. Avoid disposing of substances like grease or coffee grounds down the sink. Additionally, installing and routinely using drain strainers can help catch debris and prevent blockages from forming.

Modern septic tanks have two lids: one that covers the inlet where wastewater flows into the tank and one that covers the outlet where the treated water flows out to the drain field. However, older septic tanks installed before 1975 may have only one lid. Because septic tanks last 20 to 40 years, if yours only has one lid, it may be time for a replacement.

Baking soda can help neutralize septic tank odors. If the pH balance in your tank is off, it may emit a sulfurous, rotten-egg-like smell. Flushing about one cup of baking soda down the toilet once a week can help neutralize the odor. To increase the beneficial bacteria in your tank, you can add three rotten tomatoes through your garbage disposal every three months.

To prevent odors in the first place, only flush human waste and toilet paper. Avoid pouring coffee grounds, fats, oils, or grease down your drains, as this can lead to clogs. While these methods can help, the most effective long-term solution is to have your septic tank pumped regularly, typically every three to five years. Because sewage gas can be toxic, it is recommended to hire a professional to identify the source of the smell rather than only trying to neutralize it.

Cesspools do not have an outlet or discharge area, so they must be emptied regularly. A professional cesspool cleaning company should come at least every six weeks and empty the contents. If it’s not emptied, it can begin to overflow sewage waste onto your property.
