We are total construction experts, from the smallest job to the largest.

"We just keep finding more and more problems. We hired Knight construction to build an additional bedroom and bathroom onto our house. We would NEVER recommend using them. The foundation was created improperly and sank and has continued to sink and we have had to pay to get the foundation fixed. We’ve seen multiple cracks in the walls and separation in our wood floors because of the improper foundation. This also caused our French doors to our backyard to not fit properly in the wall. After the doors started to not close properly we had justin come and look at them and we also asked him about the foundation. All he did for the doors was put more screws into it and he said it was all he could do, and he said the foundation was fine when we asked. Fast forward a few years and the French doors have leaked when it rained and caused toxic black mold to grow in the framing above the doors. This black mold has caused me to become extremely sick and I have been seeing doctors for years because of it. my husband recently took the French doors out and the siding off because we realized there was toxic black mold and he needed to remove the black mold immediately. we then found that there wasn’t enough foam in spaces around the doors, there was no outside paper under most of the siding, there was no tar paper around the doors which helps prevent leaks and the plywood used had cut outs in it, so they weren’t full pieces of wood used. so the wholes in the wood created lots of openings for water, weather and hornets to get in. Which also explains why it was always cold in our addition from the start. We are scared to look under the rest of the siding honestly. We also found that he didn’t put caulking on the trim above the doors on the inside so there was a gap letting the mold, weather and hornets from outside straight into our bedroom. Also the header above the door wasn’t properly done according to code. My husband who is not a contractor easily fixed all these things. During construction he also was extremely hard to reach and not responsive to calls also he smoked and littered in our backyard and left nails, debris and cigarette butts everywhere that we had to clean. If we find more things later, which we probably will, i will post an update. The photo is of the black mold after my husband took out the doors."

"I was quoted a price for 2 services: a light resurface of my concrete deck for $4100 and a stain and sealer on top of it for $2800. When the job was finished, it looked fine and paid in full for the project. A few days later it began raining and rained on and off for 4-5 days. When the deck finally dried up, it looked much worse than it had before the work was done. Duane agreed than the surface did not come out the way he expected and that it needed to be redone. Since it became too late in the season for Duane to redo the stain and sealer, I asked him to refund the $2800 I had paid for the portion of the work. He refused, saying he would come redo it in the spring. I asked him why he thought I should 1. let him use $2800 of my money over the winter and 2. trust him to return to complete the job satisfactorily. He got mad and now I'm going to take him to small claims court to get a refund for the unacceptable work he did."

Decorative Concrete questions, answered by experts

Generally, you shouldn’t lay artificial grass straight onto concrete. You’ll want to add some sort of underlayment that acts as a cushion. This makes it a little bit safer for children running around a pool and is recommended to prevent injury in recreational settings. It also protects that artificial grass’ backing. Just glue the grass to the underlayment using the proper adhesive.

Drying concrete faster after rain is tricky because you’d need to increase the temperature or airflow over your slab, both of which are challenging to do outdoors. It can help to remove water from your concrete quickly, though, as the faster you remove rain from the surface, the lower the risk of the water affecting the ratio of your concrete mix. Use squeegees or mops to remove water, and consider covering your slab with a tarp to protect it from future rainfall.

Besides natural alternatives that are entirely safe for concrete driveways, magnesium chloride and potassium chloride are salt-based ice melts that are mostly safe for concrete driveways. Calcium chloride is also a popular choice that’s fast-acting and less corrosive.

There are many options when it comes to driveway materials, including concrete, asphalt, gravel, and pavers. The best type of driveway material depends on your personal preference, location, and budget. Concrete is one of the most durable driveway materials, making it a popular option for homes across the country. However, it does cost more than asphalt upfront. Still, asphalt repair costs can quickly add up, making it a less economical option in the long run.

The cost of asphalt driveway repair is usually similar to the cost of average concrete driveway repairs, but maintaining asphalt tends to be less expensive on a per-instance basis. For example, resurfacing asphalt costs about $1 less per square foot, but it doesn’t last as long as concrete and will need more frequent repairs. An asphalt driveway lasts 20 to 25 years, but a well-maintained concrete driveway can last twice as long, so the maintenance costs and timeline even out.
