*** I have recently added the Nashville area to my service coverage. Since I can do most of my services remotely with you over the phone, I am hoping to eventually open up to larger markets and help people from having to take their computer in to get it fixed, if it has internet access, I can usually fix it over the Internet. Just trying to do more to help my Angies List customers!!******** I am a sole proprietor that works out of my home. I am my only employee, but I have over 20 years experience fixing computers, and providing superior customer service. I work on a flat rate service, and don't charge by the hour because I feel it's important to educate the customer on what the issue is/was, and how to avoid it in the future. I feel that local service companies (my competition) have been overcharging customers for years. I offer a first time customer discount of 10% but I will offer 15% off for first time customers referred by Angies List. I've lived in the Huntsville area most all my life, so I know the area very well. I will never use a subcontractor as I am very picky about making sure that if my name and company is associated with something, it will be the best experience my customer has ever had, and using sub contractors won't ensure that, so I prefer to do all the work myself. Lastly, I should point out that I am a former offensive lineman for the University of Southern Mississippi and was Brett Favre's center his freshman year at Southern. I went on to play for Tom Landry in his last year, but gave up pro football early on to pursue my passion of fixing computers. If I didn't have bills to pay, I would do this for free because I love it! If you have a computer problem, I promise you that you couldn't find a better technician that will care about you as a customer, and not about the bottom line. I am always available, but don't always answer my phone, but if you leave a message, I promise to back with you as soon as possible...and figure out how to get your issue resolved in a quick, efficient and economical manner. Thanks so much for reading my ad, and I look forward to working for you!

"They cover the maintenance, they don't cover the six month checkup. I was not happy with who they had come out and American Home Shield itself worked very close with us to make sure that things were followed up on, but the only way we could get the place, it was call Air Mac and they were out in Columbus. When the guy had come out and finally located the part that needed to be installed, first off it was difficult to find the part because this Lennox furnace is old,. They did fix it and it's doing fine. We have a warranty, so we payed $75 for them to come out, now because it was cold weather and we had a child  less than a year old in the rental property, we needed a heater and because at first it was not quick enough. They kept saying  we can't find  the part or the guy that's supposed to be looking for it is sick, so American Home Shield said to go out and buy a nice space heater and we did so. They reimbursed us for it. It was like $55-56. That was a surprise. Their service was great.  I would put them with the top rated. They couldn't help with what Air Mac was doing. American Home Shield was fine. I'm happy with American shield. The price is reasonable, I don't have a problem paying anybody $75 to come out because you pay that to have someone to come out and service your dishwasher,  unless you have a full warranty. I'm not unhappy at all with American Home Shield and didn't know that they would insure our rental property, but they did. You know you have to keep your renters happy."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

To find a reputable HVAC company, start by researching providers in your area. Look for companies with mostly positive online reviews and check the Better Business Bureau’s website for customer complaints. Next, verify their credentials. Rule out any companies that aren’t licensed, as this is a requirement in some states and municipalities, and confirm they are insured. Once you have a shortlist, contact each professional to ask key questions: How many years of experience do you have? Do you hold any third-party certifications? Do you have experience working on my specific type of HVAC system or brand? Can you provide references? What is your per-hour pricing? Do you offer maintenance contracts for ongoing savings? Do you provide a warranty for your work?

Most AC repair technicians will take between two and six hours to carry out repairs, depending on the work needed and the accessibility of the unit. For example, recharging refrigerant lines should take one to two hours to service, while replacing a compressor, blower fan, or other major components can take five to eight hours. You can ask your AC repair technician how long they expect the job to take, but just in case, you should plan on being home and available for most of the day.

Yes, a dirty evaporator coil can freeze up. Dirty evaporator coils can’t absorb or transfer heat properly. The dirt and grime restrict airflow, which is needed to move heat throughout the system properly. Your air conditioning unit could freeze over, or it can cause your heat pump to freeze.

You can buy a house with a 15-year-old HVAC system if you inspect the system for performance and budget for a replacement within the next three years. You can also negotiate the price with the sellers. Ask to look at the unit’s maintenance records and energy bills for the last two years to determine the shape of the HVAC system and its operating costs. Spend time in each room of the house to gauge if the HVAC keeps the home at a consistent temperature throughout.

If you’re planning an AC replacement, choosing an AC with a higher SEER rating may save you money in the long run. Tax credits could cover as much as 30% of the job, and you’ll notice smaller utility bills (particularly if you live in a hot climate where you need to constantly run the AC). Generally, you can expect to pay between $350 and $1,500 for each SEER rating increase. Weigh the cost against your typical utility bill to figure out what’s worth it to you.
