The Gallery is Durango's local experts on wood, tile, and carpet flooring installation. With long time professionals to offer their experience and knowledge, The Gallery is a great stop for those who are still in the planning stage of installing a new floor.

"The Gallery was wonderful. They worked with us to select the right floors and colors. Their installer, a subcontractor, was terrific. Very communicative and the work was lovely. The floors were installed in August 2017 and look just as beautiful now as they did then."

Watson Enterprises is a General Contracting firm performing 60% residential and 40% commercial work. Our specialty is finish work including cabinetry, trim work, tile installation, kitchen and bath renovation. Owner Andy Watson earned an AOS degree in Building Construction from SUNY Alfred Campus and has been in construction for over 30 years. WE works with local qualified sub contractors for all mechanical work and self performs all other aspects of the project. Our slogan is "Building Excellence" as we strive for perfection in all aspects of our work.

"Andy and his crew removed a jacuzzi tub in our master bathroom, replacing it with a tiled shower and frame-less glass door. Plumbing and fixtures were replaced along with installing a really cool shower drain. The master bathroom vanity counter top was also replaced along with sinks and new plumbing fixtures. He also removed wallpaper from several areas of the condo. Those areas we re-textured to match the rest of the condo. He repainted most of the condo. The project was completed on time, on budget, and the finished work was of high quality. Andy is the type of guy that sees other things that need to be repaired and fixes them at the same time. He treats your home like it is his home and it shows in his level of detail. Since this is our vacation condo, we don't live locally. Andy handled all of the details and did a great job with communication. It was great to get pictures and texts of progress throughout the remodel. I think he gets as excited as the home owners on the projects."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

When cleaning porcelain tiles, avoid products that contain ammonia, bleach, and other harsh chemicals. Acid-based cleansers can damage the tile, though you can clean them with a diluted mixture of one-quarter cup white vinegar mixed with one gallon of hot water. It is important always to use a soft-bristled brush or sponge, since hard bristles and steel wool can scratch the tile.

Uniform spacing between tiles is important for a professional and clean appearance. To achieve this spacing, tile spacers should be placed between the tiles and left in place until the mortar hardens and the tiles are secure. You can use X-shaped spacers vertically in between the tiles and laid flat at the corners.

Tiling over your existing backsplash is possible with the right materials and preparation. To do this, the existing backsplash must be clean and free of damage. If you’re installing the new tiles with thinset mortar, the thinset will fill in the existing grout lines as you go, so there won’t be any low spots. If you’re installing a peel and stick tile backsplash, you’ll need to add grout to the existing grout lines first to create a level surface.

Yes, but you should only put tile directly on drywall in smaller areas that don’t experience excess moisture. For example, a small kitchen tile backsplash could work, but installing tile directly on the drywall in a bathroom or other chronically damp area is not a good idea. Either way, a cement backer board is a far more reliable solution, as drywall is susceptible to moisture and can warp or cause your tiles to crack.

Generally speaking, it is better to cut tile wet when using a fast-moving wet saw to reduce dust and chipping. However, tile can be cut dry when using just about any cutting tool. Dry cutting will result in a bigger mess and may increase the risk of chipping or cracking, but if you’re just making small cuts, dry cutting is a safe and viable option. Cutting dry also means you can apply tile grout sooner, so it’s better for rushed projects.
