"Very amazing results! Far better than hoped for, even better results than we were told to expect! Water now drains AWAY from the foundation, and it was done in less than a day!"

"The owner (Michel Bervaldi) was very informative and forthcoming re the project. Unfortunately, financial priorities did not allow us to follow though without the project. We did speak with other contractors and Michel would have been our first choice if we were to proceed as originally planned."

"James and Robert came out early the next morning, after I had a huge leak under my sink and flooded kitchen. I called James at 9pm that evening. They arrived early to assess the problem and gave me an incredibly reasonable estimate. They are professional, friendly, and completed the repairs in record time. I live in a 65 year-old home and have had my share of inept, incompetent trades people, specifically plumbers, rip me off and do shoddy workâ ¦ James and Robert are top-notch, and even gave me good advice as to who to call to avoid a mold issue with the wet interior and exterior walls. Donâ t hesitate to call VIP Plumbing for your plumbing needs. They are awesome!!! Susan VanDenBerg"

This was the first time I've used Angie's List. Our kitchen sink and dishwasher began backing up on Saturday night. I tried to fix the problem myself, which has occurred before, but this time I could not get it to clear.

I called Jim on Sunday morning at 11am. He answered, and first indicated that he didn't typically work on Sunday's, but offered to assist. He arrived within an hour, discovered that the problem was a bit more complicated, left to get more equipment, and returned again within about 30 minutes. He completed his work in about an hour; gave us some helpful hints on ways to avoid this happening again, and thoroughly cleaned up the area he was working in.

I found Jim to be professional and courteous, and I liked the fact that he's a local businessman who cares about treating his customers right.

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Installing storm windows can protect your home’s interior from heavy storms. Most storm windows are made with enamel-coated aluminum with screens and sliding glass panels. They also make your house more energy-efficient. The average storm window cost is $12,000, ranging between $4,250 and $19,850, depending on mounting, window types, glass types, and frame materials.

A crawl space can be as little as 42 inches below the grade of your house, but this is not always recommended in flood-prone areas. At a minimum, there must be at least 16 inches of clearance between the ground and the floor joists to access the space in an emergency.

If you set up a dehumidifier, it will usually dry out your wet crawl space within 12 to 24 hours. Once the space is dry, it’s a good idea to take preventative measures to keep it dry. These include installing a French drain or other exterior foundation drainage system, installing a sump pump in the crawl space, and installing a vapor barrier in addition to leaving the dehumidifier running.

The most flood-resistant materials you can count on in a flood scenario are concrete, closed-cell insulation, foam insulation (also known as expandable foam), pressure-treated wood, marine-grade plywood, and ceramic tile. When a material is flood-resistant, it can withstand direct contact with floodwater for at least 72 hours without being significantly damaged.

Whether your homeowners insurance covers slab leak repairs depends on your specific policy and the cause of the leak. Many policies cover slab leaks resulting from a covered peril, such as a natural disaster, a falling tree, or pipes freezing and bursting within the slab. However, damage caused by invading tree roots, corrosion, or leaks from appliances may not be covered by a standard policy. It's a good idea to also check your home warranty plan for potential coverage if an appliance is the source. Contact your insurance provider for a full explanation of what your policy covers.
