Customers say: True professional

"Daniel was on time for setting up the estimate. He has a very detailed estimate that looked professional. Although we change the date three time he stood by estimate. He was extremely courteous. S&G started on time the date we had scheduled. I highly recommend S&G for staining or painting."

"I hired them for a full re-stain of our house and deck (took 50 gallons of stain to give you a sense of the size of the project). Very responsive and focused on my satisfaction throughout the whole process. The guys were on time and worked diligently the entire time they were here. Bids were very competitive with multiple other vendors I considered. Everything looks like new after they were finished and not a drop of stain out of place which shows their attention to detail. I will absolutely hire them for any future projects."

"Luke was amazing. He gave us a quick quote that was reasonable. He started and worked when he said he would. He kept us updated and sent pictures afterward. The quality of his work was excellent. I was so pleased with his work. He went above and beyond by doing a couple extra things for us as we were out of state. I would and will recommend him to anyone looking for a professional quality painter!"

"A bedroom ceiling was damaged and had to be repaired. Carlos installed new insulation, drywall, taped it and painted it. It was better than before. It was a pleasure having Carlos and his team in our home. They were always on time, always pleasant, and cleaned up at the end of every day. If we have work in the future, Martinez Remodeling will be our first call."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

Provided conditions are ideal, staining an entire deck should take as little as a couple of hours and up to a couple of days to apply and cure. Additional procedures, like sealing a deck or using additional treatments, may extend the project by a few additional days.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.

Pressure-treated wood lasts at least 10 years, but with the right care and treatment, it can last as long as 40 years. Painting the boards is one way to increase the lifespan of pressure-treated wood. The layer of paint provides extra protection for the wood against the exterior elements and insects.

You don’t necessarily have to remove all the old paint before repainting your deck, but it’s best to remove as much as possible to ensure a smooth and long-lasting finish. Prioritize scraping off loose, peeling, or flaking paint, and sand down rough areas to create a smooth surface for the new paint to bond with.
