"Tim was extremely professional from start to finish, as was his assistant. He made sure all remnants of insulation or trash were removed and my house was just, as clean as when he arrived. I have since had an energy assessment blow test of how much air is escaping from my attic. The test showed that there was a substantial change and less air was escaping. I was able to receive a rebate which was an added bonus. I would recommend Vail Valley Insulation for any insulation project."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Heat lost through uninsulated basement walls can account for up to 30% of the total energy lost through heat transfer to the outdoors. While homes in mild climates won't gain as much benefit from having an insulated basement as those in cold climates, the effects are still noticeable on your energy bill.

Insulation prevents heat transfer, which keeps your home cool in summer and warm in winter. Regulating the temperature in your home is not only more comfortable for you, but will lower your heating and cooling bills—it’s a win-win. Make sure to determine the correct amount of insulation to ensure it is enough for your home and climate.

Roof vents help cool a house because as they allow hot air to escape, the temperature regulates inside the attic. If vents are defective or there are not as many as there should be, the attic becomes hot and stuffy. Without roof vents, air conditioning has to work harder to maintain a consistent temperature in the attic.

When looking for a company who installs insulation, your best bet is usually to work with an insulation contractor or professional insulation company. If you can't find a local insulation company, working with a general contractor can be another option. No matter who you hire, always confirm that they have experience.

The heat loss through a poorly insulated attic when you’re running your furnace or heat pump during cold weather can be as high as 25%. This means you could see significantly higher energy costs to make up for this heat loss. The cost of adding insulation to the attic may eventually pay for itself through lower energy bills. If you decide to add a radiant barrier too, the radiant barrier cost may also pay for itself over time.
