In our home, they missed a leaking condensation line during the service that eventually led to water damage in two neighboring rooms (the water went into the walls and underneath the floors) and thousands of dollars in damage. Replacing only one coil, especially in older units, can cause compatibility issues, leading to inefficiency and potential system breakdown. 

As AC units near the end of their expected lifespan, investing in the cost for a new AC system is typically better than paying for individual component upgrades to avoid costly repairs and ensure optimal performance.

Air filters with a high MERV rating, 11 or above, shouldn't cause airflow problems in most residential systems. However, the airflow can be restricted in some HVAC systems if they aren't designed for high MERV ratings.
