"I would very highly recommend Sola de Vega. They removed our old grass and some soil, sprayed the area with an herbicide to prevent unwanted grasses from returning, installed a gopher/mole guard, replaced the sprinkler heads, and installed new topsoil and sod. Saul was very quick to respond to our request for a bid and was very reasonable in his estimate and final costs for the project. I can't speak highly enough to characterize his professionalism, rapid follow-up to our questions and concerns, and great communication and friendly demeanor. The project was completed on time, including installation and clean-up, and the results were beautiful."

"I am incredibly pleased with this company. The entire crew were 100% professional. The owner of the company took time to answer my homeowner questions as they came up. He was very patient and thorough. All the men on the job worked incredibly hard and stayed on task throughout the project. They installed the French drain, installed a washout and removed an old deck all in a weekend. I would most certainly recommend them."

Small jobs welcome

"I contacted Rose Valley Earthworks and Paving to give me an estimate on cleaning up a 1.3 acres of land belonging to my elderly cousin who lives in Santa Rosa and doesn’t drive. I happen to live in TX, so I figured this might be a challenge to find someone to help me. I was right until I luckily got in touch with Brad Riddle of Rose Valley Earth Works! Even though he knew I didn’t have the final say in hiring his company, he went out and walked the dilapidated property and took several pictures. He even called me in TX while he was taking pictures to keep me informed! He said he would have an estimate for the work to be done sent shortly so I could show my cousin’s daughter. His estimate, compared to estimates over the phone, were very reasonable. I’ll be disappointed if my relatives don’t hire him, because meeting him and discussing business over the phone was great! Brad was professional and very kind and understanding."

Land Clearing Services questions, answered by experts

If a buyer pays for a survey, the surveyor they hired will only provide results to them. It’s up to the buyer whether they share the survey results with the seller or not, even if they ultimately walk away from the deal. It’s considered good faith to share the results with the seller, though, especially if you back out of the deal, as the seller can then provide that survey to future interested parties.

A few different types of land surveys can help determine certain features and boundaries of your property. These include:

  • Boundary surveys describe the actual borders of a property. These are generally required when trying to get construction permits issued.

  • Location surveys provide much of the same information as a boundary survey but also include in-depth information about any improvements made to your property.

  • Mortgage location surveys are usually required by lenders and title companies before financing or offering an insurance policy.

  • Site-planning surveys are done before applying for building permits and can be issued before any major home improvements.

  • Topographic surveys provide a formal map of land elevations. It can also describe the location and size of natural features and any land improvements.

With proper training and experience, reading blueprints is fairly straightforward and not very difficult. If you don’t have the necessary knowledge to interpret the symbols, abbreviations, and other notations used, blueprints may not make sense. Learning to read blueprints can help you understand the construction process and keep you more involved and informed when you’re building a house.

This is fairly rare, but sometimes the local government or a group like a historical society will label a tree as a landmark, or historical item. These designations almost always come with a small, on-site plaque for identification, but you should also be able to look up protected trees in your area on a city website or similar list. If the tree in question is a landmark, call your local government and ask how to proceed before making any plans.

Land surveys don’t technically expire. They do serve as a point of reference and a snapshot of your property, though, so as soon as you make changes to your property (and even if your neighbor makes certain changes to theirs), your existing land survey becomes inaccurate, and a new one must be done. Even if you don’t make any changes to your property, many states only guarantee the accuracy of a land survey for five to ten years.
