"Ike was great from start to finish. He came quickly to give an estimate and started promptly. He did a great job at everything the job required. He finished on time and cleaned up well. The job was complex and he triple checked each item to ensure it was exactly what we wanted. Several things were more difficult than expected but he still got it done on time. He excavated, created and graded a 100+ft ledge perfectly. I would recommend Isaac Nathaniel to anyone."

"Campbell services provided me timely excavation of driveway. His crew were professional and courteous. I was pleased with the time they took in making sure the mess was cleaned to my satisfaction along with taking extra care to preserve the existing landscape. I only wish other companies would adopt that type of work ethic."

"Hector came up with a great solution for some drainage issues at our house. They were quick and efficiently and very cost effective. After they left it looked like they had never been there. Highly recommend."

"Responsive, friendly, punctual, and highly competent. It helped that I was overseeing the work because some decisions and improvisation had to be done on the fly with the repair of a sprinkler valve, installation of and two ball-valve cutoffs, and relocation of an adjacent faucet."

"He was available by phone, and was flexible in scheduling meetings which is great. He was professional, and seemed quite knowledgable. In the end, I didn't use Nato's services because his quote was twice as much as the other contractor I was considering. Perhaps his prices may be more competitive in other services he offers. Either way, working with this company was a pleasant experience."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

It takes one hour to dig a 10-foot trench by hand. Use a trenching shovel with a sharp tip and a long head. Plan for more time if your soil is heavy or rocky. Consider renting a trencher if you’re digging a long or deep trench or if you have challenging soil or terrain.

You should dig 3 to 6 inches deep for plastic edging. Dig as wide as you need to fit your plastic edging into it—2 inches is usually sufficient.

You can dig 60 to 80 linear feet by hand per day depending on the depth. Digging a 100-foot trench by hand will take you two work days, but it can take longer if you have heavy or rocky soil. If you’re digging a deep trench or one that’s over 100 feet, consider renting a mechanical trencher, such as a walk-behind or ride-on, or calling a pro for help.

It can take several weeks for the ground to settle after removing a tree, and the soil under larger, more mature trees can take months. The deeper the tree has been ground under the soil, the longer it will take to settle. However, this extra depth can help you plant new landscaping sooner because you’ll have more space for fresh soil.

Yes. A metal detector is one of the quickest and easiest ways to find your septic tank. However, metal detectors can be too expensive (costing upward of $300 in some cases), and not everyone has a metal detector just lying around. If that’s the case for you, you can also take a long metal rod and poke it into the ground at regular intervals until you hit something—likely your septic tank lid.
