"Nick did a terrific job removing the entire front yard carefully. He shoveled the areas he could not reach with his Bobcat, removed tough roots, kept me informed about potential problems, and spread 8 cubic yards of mulch and gravel efficiently. Isaac (Ike), the owner, was very professional and gave me a good price, and even discounted it when they had to come a day late. The work took three hours and Nick left the front clean and swept. Much appreciated!"

"Campbell services provided me timely excavation of driveway. His crew were professional and courteous. I was pleased with the time they took in making sure the mess was cleaned to my satisfaction along with taking extra care to preserve the existing landscape. I only wish other companies would adopt that type of work ethic."

"Joe Doman is a very professional leader to lead his team to finish my front and back yard within two working days. His team is very efficient, listens to your instructions and acts promptly. His team shows up on the promised date and finish all work on agreed schedule. His price is very reasonable based on the scope of work and rock garden requirements. I highly recommend this company to handle your garden project."

"I couldn't be happier with the concrete work that was done in my backyard. From start to finish, the team was quick, professional, and incredibly efficient. They showed up on time, communicated clearly throughout the process, and completed the project faster than I expected without sacrificing quality. What impressed me most was how they went above and beyond to make sure everything was done right. They paid attention to the details, kept the work area clean, and made sure I was completely satisfied with the final result. The finished concrete looks fantastic and has completely transformed my backyard. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality concrete work. Excellent service, great workmanship, and a team that truly cares about their customers!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

No, you typically cannot use metal detectors to find your sewer line. Most sewer lines are made of non-metallic materials such as PVC, clay, or cast iron, which are not detectable by standard metal detectors. Metal detectors are designed to locate metallic objects, so they won't be effective for identifying the path of a non-metallic sewer line. To locate your sewer line accurately, it's best to use other methods.

If you have a broken sprinkler pipe underground, there will be some signs you can easily spot to locate it and take action. These include leaks, water spouts, flooding, consistently damp areas on your lawn, low water pressure, and grass around the sprinkler head that’s taller and darker than anywhere else in the yard.

If there are no obvious signs of a broken pipe, you can use tools such as water leak mics, leak noise loggers, audio devices that record leaks, and acoustic testing links.

Broken pipes can lead to uneven watering, plant damage, and higher utility bills. The longer you wait to fix them the more the repair cost may be.

Depending on the severity of the freeze and the method used, thawing frozen underground pipes can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. Applying heat directly to the pipe using heat tape, infrared lamps, or hot water jetting can speed up the process. However, patience and careful monitoring are key to avoiding pipe damage.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

If you don’t wish to dig it out and convert it into a finished basement, you can still encapsulate your crawl space to protect it from damage for an average cost of $5,500. Finishing a crawl space beyond this isn’t really worthwhile, as the low ceilings mean you won’t be able to use the area as living space.
