"The cleaners were very nice and professional but unfortunately, they work was not satisfactory. They worked the entire 4 hours. The kitchen and hardwood floors were done very well but the rest of the house (laundry room, 3 bathrooms, den, and 2 bedrooms) were done hastily with nothing more than a quick run through. There were two workers but they got less done than what my old housekeeper could get done by herself. I understand if they ran out of time , and I checked in with them several times, but at the end of service they said they did everything "top to bottom" and hurried out the door. They had already packed up the car before I had a chance to walk around and check out the rooms. After they left, I found rooms they had "done" with the same dust that was there this morning before they arrived. Toilets were hastily cleaned and rugs barely vacuumed. I've used Americas Best on Windows before and were very satisfied but today I feel like wasted money on a "deep house cleaning" that was rushed through because they were running out of time.  I'm really disappointed in the quality of this service.

Toilets questions, answered by experts

The average cost to hire a plumber is typically between $45 and $200 per hour, with a common average rate around $125 per hour. This cost can vary based on your location, the plumber's experience, and the complexity of the job. Rates are often broken down by experience level: an apprentice may charge $45 to $90 an hour, a journeyman $60 to $110 an hour, and a master plumber $80 to $200 an hour. While hourly rates are standard, some plumbers may charge a flat fee for routine projects or offer project-based pricing. It's also common for plumbers to charge a minimum service or trip fee. For reference, some typical flat-rate costs for common jobs include: drain unclogging ($220), leaky faucet repair ($270), burst pipe repair ($400), toilet repair ($300), and water heater repair ($600). Note that these rates are for standard service hours; emergency, holiday, and after-hours calls will cost significantly more.

Yes, you should caulk a toilet to the floor for several reasons. Bathrooms are constantly wet—and if water splashes out of your shower and collects on your floor, you don’t want it seeping underneath your toilet, where it could potentially cause damage. Plus, caulk adds stability and helps prevent your toilet from wobbling.

Toilets typically connect to your main vent stack, a vertical pipe that runs through all finished levels of your home and exits through the roof. It’s located behind the walls, but if you have an unfinished basement or a utility closet, you may find a portion of it running the vertical length of the space. Some basement toilets use an air admittance valve instead, which is a small vent located in the wall directly behind the toilet that extends upward a few feet from the drain.

Sealant doesn’t need to be applied to the bolts, but it can be a good way to stop an active leak in the moment. However, don’t rely on it as a cure-all; instead, make sure to fix the problem at the source by changing or tightening the bolts.

If you do use sealant, make sure to spread it thickly and evenly across the bolts and the tank's porcelain.

The biggest sign that your flange leaks is if you notice water at the base of the toilet. The cause is likely due to a poor flange installation, so you might have issues with loose bolts, an uneven flange, or a cracked plastic flange. Add a deteriorating wax seal to this, and you have a recipe for disaster. The best solution is to shut off the water valve, replace the toilet flange, and seal it with a new wax ring.
