As an alternative, you can repair your drywall and sand it for a smooth finish before painting.

It’s highly recommended to use studs for a TV mount. The last thing you want is to be watching your favorite show when the TV falls off the wall. For very lightweight objects, like small pictures, adhesive picture hanging strips can be a suitable alternative to anchors.
