"We recently had Mega Power Electric Inc install a solar system and panels. The President and provided excellent communication all the way through the process. He even met with us after installation to explain the almost incomprehensible PG&E bill. Although not the least expensive bid, his was competitive and I felt he was as interested in educating me about solar and the various types of panels and inverter systems as he was in selling a system. He demonstrated how the array of panels would meet our energy needs and as opposed to some of the other companies, wasn't selling us more than we needed. We are very satisfied with our solar system and I highly recommended Mega Power Electric Inc."

"After having a disastrous master bathroom remodel where the subcontractor had botched the job, I was faced with finding a company that can fix it. The job was done so poorly that it had to be redone. Naturally I was quite skeptical after this ordeal.. When I contacted Expert Home Builders, Owner came out and assured me that they could complete my master bath to my standards (I am very picky) and it would be done in a very timely manner. Their tile man and painter did exquisite work. After the glass shower, vanity, and tub were installed, I was extremely happy with the results. And you will too if you choose to use them. They offer first rate quality on their remodeling services. I recommendation them without any hesitation."

"When I discovered that I had a major problem with my house and that it was in jeopardy of collapsing, I had to act quickly to get temporary shoring in place and also get a structural engineer and architect on board to get the designs moving.  I met Ceaser Briones, of Briones Construction, and walked him through the requirement to shore up the ceiling to prevent the house from collapsing.  Briones Construction jumped in and went to work immediately and helped me save my house.  They didn't take advantage of my situation by trying to overcharge me.  I know because I build facilities and maintain them for a living, and know how much it should cost to do the work.
Once all of the shoring was in place, we focused on the structural and architectural designs to make the necessary structural repairs and to remodel the house.  Briones Construction was instrumental in helping the architect and structural engineer with field measurements and confirming as-built conditions.  Once the designs were finished and permits pulled, Briones Construction didn't hesitate a moment to get started with the work.  They coordinated every aspect of the job, including moving my furniture, fencing the site, bringing in a roll off trash bin, etc.   They knew what they were doing and were very professional.  Briones Construction's work was meticulous and every detail was addressed.  Their quality was outstanding in every respect."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s definitely possible to build a pergola on an existing deck. All you need to do is attach the pergola support beams to the deck’s joists and build up from there. Beware that mistakes can damage your deck, so if you’re at all unsure of the process, play it safe and hire a pro for your custom build.

Yes. Freestanding or floating decks are exactly what the name implies—structures with their own support beams. You can build a deck yourself and place it next to a house for the illusion of a connected deck without the hassle. Or you can construct it in a separate part of your yard for a dedicated outdoor entertainment space. For the purpose of removing a freestanding deck, the steps are the same as an attached deck, but you don’t have to cut the deck away from the home.

Staining and sealing the underside of a deck creates a moisture barrier but traps water in the boards, quickly leading to rot. No matter how well you seal the above deck, water still gets through via nails and screw heads on the surface. Allow this water to flow naturally under the deck, where it is routed through the drainage system.

Building a deck is often worth the investment, not only because it provides more utility to your yard and gives you more space to entertain but also because decks tend to add value to your home. Keep in mind that second-story decks often require concrete footings, which means they will bump up your property taxes, while decks built on the first story generally don’t require a permanent foundation and won’t affect your taxes. Even with the tax increase, decks are usually a good investment in the long run.

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.
