"Vincent had an opening and started the job right away. The job presented some problems because the gate was made of thin inch and one half metal tubing that was difficult to weld. Vincent’s practical abilities with the welding and some inventive engineering not only got the job done but did it in a timely manner. I would highly recommend TM Steel for any project they would be willing to do."

"I had the Fence Doctor out to fix a section of my fence that had fallen down. They were able to get out to my house quickly and did the work just as fast. The work was very good quality and I have had no problems with the fence since then. I highly recommend them for your fencing needs."

"I recently contracted Sam Weathers Welding for a welding repair on my rear fence. The service rendered was remarkably professional, and timely, and provided outstanding value for the cost. The fence now looks excellent, sturdy, pristine, and resilient, akin to a newly installed structure. I am assured that it will last for many years ahead. I fully endorse Sam Weathers for any future welding endeavors. Doreen Bicksler"

"New Generation was amazing. I requested help with a small welding job on a broken garage door hinge and they responded right away. After requesting pictures I was quoted a fair and reasonable price and they said they could come that same afternoon and do the welding on site. Arrived early and after looking saw there was another small crack which they said they would address as well but did not increase the charge. They fixed the broken garage door hinge and when installed everything works smoothly. Job well done. Will use again if need arises and would highly recommend."

"John was prompt and on time to give us an estimate for cleaning and sealing our pool deck and patio. He set a date and time when he and a helper would arrive to do the work. The showed up on time and did a very good job. There was some effervescence ( water spots which appeared when we first turned the watering system back on for our yard. John returned, at my request, and examined the situation. He set a date when he would return and fix things. Although he was half an hour late arriving, he and his helper re-coated the trouble spots with effervescence remover and it appears that the problem is solved. The additional time and materials were at John's expense."

Welding questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can use a saw to cut metal pipes. The best saw to use is a reciprocating saw, but even a fine-tooth hacksaw can get the job done. No matter which saw you use to cut metal pipes, wear protective gear, like work gloves, safety goggles, and ear plugs. Apply a firm, steady pressure to the tool, and always ensure the pipes are secured so they don't move while you make the cuts.

Cutting round ductwork requires precision and the right tools. A duct cutter, specifically designed for circular ducts, is ideal. First, mark the cutting line on the duct using a measuring tape and pencil. Then, position the duct cutter's blade on the marked line. Apply steady pressure, rotating the cutter around the duct. The sharp blade creates a clean, precise cut. Alternatively, a reciprocating saw with a metal-cutting blade can be used for larger round ducts. Ensure the duct is securely held in place while making the cut to prevent slips and maintain accuracy.

Your typical household tools will not cut a metal pipe. To cut a metal pipe, you’d need more specialized tools like a pipe cutter or circular saw. Do not attempt to use these tools without taking proper safety precautions and wearing safety gear. It’s usually safer to let a pro cut a metal pipe, especially if you’re not confident in your skills with a heavy-duty saw.

There are a few things you can ask welders before you hire them to get an idea of their experience and ability levels:

  • Are you licensed and certified?

  • How long have you been in the welding business?

  • Do you commonly do the type of welding I need?

  • Do you offer any kind of warranty for your work?

  • Do you charge by the hour or by the project?

  • How long do you expect my welding project to take?

  • What steps do you take to minimize errors in your work?

Some welding projects, such as repairing pipes or fences, require travel, whereas others, like furniture repair, do not necessarily require the welder to come to you. Travel and overhead factor into the overall cost of your welding project. Some of the most common welding projects include:

  • Metal furniture repair: $35–$100

  • Pipe repair: $200–$1,000

  • Small gates: $550–$750

  • Fencing: $1,200–$1,800

  • Fabricated sheet metal welding: $750–$2,500
