"I hired Matt's HomePRP company to repair stucco and fix some unexpected damage on my 100-year-old home in East Sacramento. The project ended up being bigger than expected, but they were honest about what they found and kept me in the loop the whole time. The crew was great — super hardworking, professional, and respectful of the space. They cleaned up every day and really took pride in their work. The house looks great now, and I feel good knowing it was done right. Would definitely recommend them for anyone working on an older home or needing solid exterior repairs."

Small jobs welcome

"We had Diamond Exterior Renovations do the siding on our home, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. Our house was previously stucco that had started cracking in several areas and needed repairs and a full repaint. Instead of going that route, Dmitriy suggested a composite cladding system with built-in insulation, and it turned out to be the perfect solution. Not only was it a fraction of the price compared to what other companies quoted us, but now we never have to paint again—and the house looks incredible. The added insulation has also been a huge bonus. We also added trim around the windows and doors and had everything wrapped in aluminum trim coil, which really made them stand out and elevated the overall look of the home. Dmitriy was knowledgeable, honest, and easy to work with, and the quality of the work exceeded our expectations. We absolutely love how our home looks now and would highly recommend Diamond Exterior Renovations to anyone considering siding upgrades."

Stucco questions, answered by experts

German schmear is a durable brick masonry coating. It should last at least a decade or two without flaking or fading, even with minimal maintenance. This makes it an economical option compared to the cost of painting your house exterior, which usually needs to be repainted every five to 10 years to keep it looking its best—thus costing more over the same time period.

Quikrete will set without mixing. The process of pouring dry concrete into your concrete form and then adding water is called dry pouring. While this method makes pouring concrete simpler and easier, it reduces its strength and durability. It can be a viable option for small, decorative concrete pavers for walkways or for setting fence posts, but it’s not ideal for pouring slabs that will bear any significant amount of weight.

One of the most significant downsides to stucco is the installation cost, which is higher than that of many other siding options because getting it to look clean and professional is a labor-intensive process. Stucco can also absorb water, making it an unsuitable option for siding in areas that see excessive rainfall. Finally, stucco can crack and chip, especially in extreme weather, and repairs are not only challenging and require help from a professional who does stucco, but can get expensive.

Masonry screws are the best option to be used on stucco. They’re thicker and made to penetrate harder surfaces like concrete and cinder blocks. Fluted masonry screws work the best because they create a stronger grasp thanks to the lines on their shafts. If you’re working on exterior stucco, use galvanized screws to prevent corrosion.

You can use small bits that are up to 3/8 inch in diameter, or larger bits that are 1/2 inch or more in diameter. Make sure the bits you use are coated with carbide or diamond; this information is usually visible on the package. You can also use hole saw bits to drill into stucco.
